Dog theft: Calls made for tougher sentencing

Under current laws, pets are considered as "property" - so if they're stolen, it's considered the same as the theft of a bike or a TV.

The one whos owner chained her to a rock and left to drown in the river trent and had to rely helplessly on passersby to help her?Bella was left "hypoglycemic, hypothermic and tremmering to the point where she could not stand."
The owner didnt go to jail, she only got £300s worth of fines and a 1yr community order with a 3yr ban on owning pets

Thats how pathetic the charges are on literal murder and animal abuse

Dogs aren’t material possessions, they’re family. Treat theft and abuse appropriately.

If anyone stole my dog I would carry out my own sentence on the thief and it won’t be a small fine and a bit of community sentence.

is cruel and inhuman treatment and needs to be harshly penalized and prosecuted

I needs to be a mandatory 5 year sentence, and a register of offenders. It is prevalent in Cheshire and North Wales at the moment.

I stole one of my dogs, she was left outside in the rain at weeks old and hadn't had her injections yet so I took her. I knew the owner and went to her father and he gave me the papers and legally the dog is now mine however not everyone is like him and sometimes dogs need rescuing even if it means theft. All abusers and those who steal for profit should be charged as if they were abusing or kidnapping a human for ransom

I stole my dog from someone’s yard 10 years ago, but only because she was tied to a tree 24/7...still a puppy...a hurricane was coming so I took her...and I don’t regret it one bit! She’s had a great life with me🐾♥️🐾

I agree, especially though PETA monsters who kidnap dogs 'to save them' then kill them. Prison time is appropriate.
