2020 Mustang Ecoboost gets great mpg while making 310 HP, but can you run 87 Octane gas on your Mustang? Mustang Ecoboost uses a turbocharged 4 cylinder Engine, which means 87 octane results in less power, but is it safe?

2020 Mustang Ecoboost achieves great gas mileage due to its 4 cylinder turbo charged engine. Mustang Ecoboost can run 87 Octane on Ford's stock tune but it comes with its downsides.

It may be tempting to run 87 Octane on your Mustang Ecoboost as the owner's manual says you can, but there are consequences running regular gas in your Mustang Ecoboost.

I’ve owned my ecoboost w/performance pack for a month now. I used 87 for the first two weeks and than switched to 93. More power, less turbo lag and overall the engine just feels more responsive too. These aren’t huge gains but you do notice the car engine just feels slightly better. 87 just feels like it’s bogging the engine down a bit.

I personally can tell the difference between 87 and 93 when it comes to response and fuel consumption. So I Alternate between 87 amd 93 every week.

The difference is real. I had recently got my ecoboost after going thru issues with my 09 v6 and thought it was strange they drove similar in terms of power and acceleration. That’s bc my dumb ah was running 87 octane not knowing that wasn’t the recommended fuel!😂 After the switch this car feels amazing to drive. Still on my way to the v8 though but I have so much respect for the ecoboost now💯

I bought my 2023 eco fastback last month and was putting regular in it. I switched to 93 octane last week and somehow. I could tell a big difference 😭😭❤️

It do get way more power on 93 but the bang for buck on 87 can't be overlooked

I got my ecoboost 2 years ago first time filling it up with 87 and took it for a spin on the freeway heard a huge boom towards the engine bay once while going 80 and that made me switch to 92 haven't heard it since almost at 130k miles

i been running premium gas in my 2018 gt since i got it but this year switched over to 87. Surprisingly the estimated mileage on a full tank of 87 is 340miles while on premium is about 270.

I would definitely run the recommended fuel. Knock sensors aren’t cheap to put in. Great video topic! Thanks

I run 87 octane. I don't see any reason that the knock sensor would wear out because of that. Additionally, the ECU will adjust the timing to prevent knock, so there shouldn't be any engine damage from it.

I may try a tank of 93 only to see what time I get for 0-60 since the power output will be higher.

2020 Eco here. Only has 20k miles, i put on 5k myself. Original owner was a lease for for 3 years. I only used 87 n driving slow or from a stop n go, it lacks power. But at 65 n need that turbo to hit off the lag in 3 seconds to pass cars, i looked down at odometer n see 90mph wow too fast i need to slow down. I have the best warranty so im not concern about the eco boom. All depending on how you drive. I commute 150 miles daily for wk so im not into racing n Cali gas prices are crazy but ill try 91 to 93 for fun b to enjoy that more pony power i will need for the merging onto the highway. Thanks for video, it opened my eyes. If i have the budget, ill go with higher octane for my 2020 Eco.

My state doesnt have 87 Oct instead Regular is 89 octaine and 93 premium I personally run my 19 stang in 89 most of the time. Here's my advise if your going to be hitting throttle doing 0-60 constantly then definitely run it on 93. Conservative driving commute 89 or 87, oil change spark change etc is what really keeps your engine strong.

I ran 87 gas 95% of the time on my 2015 and it had 96k miles on it with 0 problems when I traded it in april 2022. no catch can either. There is more power for 91\93 but it doesnt hurt anything.

If i have 87 octane in my mustang gt and i wanna switch to 91+ can i add it into a qauter tank of 87 and will it run as most 91 or is that bad for the engine? Also can i go back and fourth from the different octane levels or do i have to stay at one octane level

Should I empty the tank first then start fresh with 93 if it’s at like 75 miles left or can I fill up with the 93 now

Hi, I really hope you could help me as I cannot find anything helpful to sort this out. So I got a 2017 Mustang Ecoboost Performance Package and I got two 4 button keys with the car. I ordered a 5 button key from USA which has the key start (which I think is cool) and tried programming it. Having the key inside the car I could start it, but from outside none of the buttons or the key start is not working. Is this possible? Can I program a 5 button key to my car? Should I take it to Ford itself to get it done?

I bought my 2017 Eco-Boost Mustang in early 2018 as a "certified pre-owned" from a Ford dealer.
At 1st I used 89 Octane but after a few tanks I switched to 93 octane. Yes, the mileage is so much better the price is about a wash and I noticed better overall performance. (even going 89 to 93 - I never tried 87 octane)
