How to Upgrade your Synology NAS to DSM 7

Synology made the shift to digital for the annual reveal of their plans for the year to come and it became abundantly clear from the outset that they had users attention - given the fact the page link overloaded for many almost immediately! Synology has been a brand that is heavily 'Apple' stylized and their annual worldwide events have very much maintained that vibe. This recent shift to the digital (for obvious, pandemic reasons), although informative, certainly lacked the hardware coverage that we have come to expect at these events in previous years, shifting the focus far, FAR more towards software. Not just anyway software though, the presentations were focused on Diskstation Manager 7.0 and all its accompanying applications, services and improvements over DSM 6.2. Let's take a look at what Synology has in store for us in 2021.

Does DSM 7 allow external packages yet mostly thinking of Plex as you couldn't on the private beta

Question: I recently purchased a DS1520+. And then noticed that version 7 is in Beta. Before I continued setting things up with version 6 maybe its better just to go to version 7 now. This way I can focus my learning curve on the version that will be out soon. If you believe this will come out of Beta within 6 months then it might be worth it. I do like the new security stuff. And has anyone really lost a whole system yet?

Rob, Just suffered the dreaded Intel C2000 fault on my DS415+ - long story short, fitted 100ohm resistor on motherboard as per advice on web and its fixed.
I was on DSM 6.2 but took opportunity with your fab video to install DSM 7 on a different drive in the 415+ to see how it looked. I now notice that DSM 7 updates the actual NAS box, not just the drives and now I can't factory reset it and install DSM 6.2.
Can you point me in right direction for instructions how to reset the NAS box fully. Hopefully, not a strip down and remove button cel for a few mins.

Wondering, if it makes more sense to upgrade my brand new NAS (replacement for a 2008 model) right away during setup, before I even have the RAID created or start with DSM6 and do the upgrade, once the stable version gets released.

If You're running this DSM 7 Beta, when the Official release comes out, will the Beta be able to upgrade to the Official, or are we stuck in the beta program?

Hi! Do you know what's wrong if one of the drives is stating "not initialized" upon set up? I only have two drives, both are 4TB. One drive is "initialized" and one is "not initialized." The "initialized" drive can create a storage pool and volume while the other drive which is "not initialized" cannot create a storage pool and volume. Both drives showing "healthy." I've been looking for any solutions on this for a week now. Maybe you can help me out with this? Thank you.

You can't roll back no official plex server support, problem with internet connection setup not so happy with this "update" :(

I just purchased a brand new DS720+ and for some reason it has DSM 7.0-41222. Because of this I can't complete the install as its calling for a .pat file, but won't accept 6.2.3 because its the previous version. Very hard to get help from Synology. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have DS213 Air and no update file for me :( I also have the DS918+ which I will update, its a shame as I would like to test it on my old 213 first, now I cant, quite disappointed to be honest
