That’s a neat class to deal with high balls. It’s clear to me know. Cheers Tom

Very good idea, I like the on the rise technique almost half volley drive and on the rise slice.

Hello from France,
Great videos, thanks Tom for your good courses. That's so clear, I m improving my tennis with your help.
Take care 👍

The 2nd way results in a half-volley only if you overdo it. It's up to you to advance as much as necessary to make it a waist-level shot. And it's the best option of the three, by far.

Awesome tutorial and great form as always, Tom! Love taking it on the rise and taking time away from my opponent. The way you slice it (option 3) really turns defense into offense. I also like the fourth option: Push down into the court, spring up into the air and hit a top spin backhand; similar to option 1, it requires a little more skill with similar results but perhaps more power/kick.

Tom.... another great tip and strategy. You presented it in a nice and simple form that I can take on the court with me. Keep up the good work.

The ONLY  best option is to turn around the back- hand, with great foot work, as soon as  you see the moon ball is coming  and hit a very powerful forehand. AND start dictating the game Alberto Brestegi ( French open final ) ,  160 cm high, use to do that all the time ....all Spanish players they do this technique ... Greeting from IRAN

There is a fourth option. I am short so sometimes I simply block a high ball to my backhand deep to my opponent. It won't have much pace so you have to be ready quickly for the next shot.

Great insight and love the way you explain options with a situation. This way it stays in mind and is useful during practice. In the list of options - can we not count meeting the ball before bouncing as another? A simple slice would suffice. Your views?

That’s awesome Tom, I have been looking forward to a video like this. As you mentioned the safest shot on these kind of balls is always get back and hit a backhand with change in the grip, what about if the ball is much closer to the baseline, say around 6inches to one feet. As these kind of balls will not leave much room for us to get back and wait for the ball to drop down after looping, in that case the safest options would be to hit the ball on the rise or slice it back to keep it in play. However in my personal experience both of these options involves more risk than reward specially for a player with a two handed backhand. Correct me if I am wrong. Please share your valuable opinion and I will really appreciate if you can make another video for a two handed backhand dealing with the kind of issue I have mentioned. Thanks once again Tom.

I am new to tennis, and I only can do two hand backhand (and option 1 is pretty much the only option I know how to do). But even I thought I hit the high ball hard and high it would only fall on the bottom of the net. Can you give me an advice what I need to do with two hand backhand with high ball? Thanks in advance.

My eyes get big, my mouth waters, my heart beats faster when I get these balls.

Isn’t there a 4th option, namely to take the ball on the rise but wait for it to come up higher and drive it from chest height so you can hit with a more aggressive trajectory?
