A common problem in getting data clean and ready for analysis is adding a column that classifies the rows into a set of types (or groups, or categories). In this video we are assigning cities to sales regions based on their state. Three different techniques are shown and compared. The final technique is much quicker and less error prone than the obvious one.

thanks! very helpful! what about for 1 keyword only? let's say, tab#1 "Faulty Light L2" vs tab#2 "Faulty Light L3". Would selecting just the work "Light" be able to catergorize it in one Value?

I liked your examples, but I need one step further. Let's say I don't want to assign each State a particular Region manually (there's 50 states; that's still a lot of work to assign each state a region, and let's say there were 100, 1000, states and I had to assign each of them to one of the 6 regions). How would you automate the assignment of a category to a long list of discrete cell values?
