I like this mod. The boxes are not messy if you use for the purpose of keep large amounts of the same types of items, for example wood blocks and plants.
The chests are nice, with the locking system and amount of space. But if the material used won't give advantage over each other, rather change it to use wool for coloring.

Yeah, we definitely need this in FTB, maby a config file to choose Better Storage or Iron Chest, or both. I would definitely choose Better Storage. Very clever, and pretty balanced for the time being. I can't wait to see what the mod maker has in mind for the future.

Another great idea for the whole key and lock mechanic would be to lock doors. That way you can lock different parts of you house. That would be awesome!

Been using this mod for a while, glad to see it getting a spotlight! I prefer it to the iron chests mod.

Seriously, out of all the mods I've seen i'm surprised no one has made a security mod, you could have all kinds of things that would be amazingly helpful, like laser detectors that you can attach to a block and that block will emit red stone pulse when its tripped, or an alarm system, an actual alarm, chest monitors player detectors ect, but you could also balance it with say spray to show lasers if they've been upgraded to be invisible... a lot of potential :P

Basically, if you desir to store an insane amount of items in one place with a cheap item, you have to pay a cost. The (relatively low to be honest) cost in this case is a random sampling of the inventory of the crates. It balances the access an individual can have to the crates for the amount of stuff they can hold. Personally though, I'd jut use a large setup like that for stuff like my cobble, dirt, gravel, sand, and mob drops (i.e. Rotten flesh + others) so it wouldn't matter much.

Other then the fact that you can brake the chests if there not yours its a pretty cool mod. IC2 or MFFS safes may be better, but for more public servers were you don't want too many mods or someone with uber armor. It would be pretty cool and useful for some sort of security and I wouldn't be surprised to see this in a hand full of adventure maps. Like you said though it's not complete yet so thing may change.

you need a wooden pipe, powered by an engine, to pull items out of a chest and into connected pipes, other pipes can be used to put items into chests.

this could make for some interesting stuff in servers, like people rigging up traps to kill people without being seen then rush over grab their keys copy them and drop them back on the floor, then wait for the owner to come back and collect their stuff thinking "thank goodness nobody got my keys" then follow them back to their base so you know where they are and wait till they leave to get in the chests for looting

I feel this mod adds many things that are creative, but useless, or already done.
In the end, It's not a bad mod, It's just not really useful in SMP since you can secure storage in so many other ways.

Did you know that Thaumcraft adds arcane door which works like it had a lock in it? By default you are the only person being able to use it but you can craft keys which can unlock the door for other players.

there should be a keyring that you can carry and store keys on, and the crates should have pages to flip though if its really big and full of like 70 stacks of items or whatever. cool mod and hope to see it develop good

The crates are intentionally unorganized. It's a balancing thing to counteract how cheap per stack of storage they are.

Ever tried to find something in a large box of legos? The crates are kind of like that.

it doesnt, the stoage busses simply dont pick up chests with locks on them however they can access "storage crate" 's (yes that is huge ammount of storage

Use a trigger/shock/security chest hooked up to a force field floor, with a lava pool below. It'd be pretty difficult to escape something like that unsinged.

If Im not mistaken, while in 'god' mode or OP mode, you can hit x and enchant
