How to Use an Anti-Theft 'Club' Device

A surprising number of people that have worked for me haven't been exactly sure about how a "truck club" works to prevent theft. This video show why, in three minutes. I know that this is really basic stuff, but hey, would you rather have your vehicle get stolen?

Just bought The Club today and after watching this video, I'm going straight back out to my car to reposition The Club so the long part is next to the driver's window! The sales guy from Auto Zone showed me how to install it onto my steering wheel, but he had the long end extending to the right. So glad I watched this video. Thank you!

I may sound lame but I've seen these my whole life and never had any interest in how they worked right up until my car was stolen a little over 15 hours ago! But no worries it's in my possession now. My point being that I've been looking for alternatives to make my car impossible to use while I'm away and this video explains perfectly what these locks are for! Thanks man!

I purchased a Club today and needed an explanation as to how it works. The person who sold it to me could not explain. I purchased one nevertheless because my mechanic recommended I do especially after recently having my car stolen and recovered it yesterday. Nicely explained. Thank you.

Wow! I've been doing it all wrong--I wait for thief to come steal my car--and then CLUB him over the head with it! Works good! Sometimes it's better not to read the instructions.

Great video! Too many people think steering wheel locks are useless and outdated because they are 'old' technology. You're right, they still work! And I'd even say they work better now that they're unpopular as thieves don't expect many people to use them anymore. Simple, cheap, effective.

I read many comments saying they buy this for their replacement car after theirs got stolen. Im gonna be smart and buy this before it gets stolen. First thing in the morning i will go there

True. It is only a deterrent, not an absolute form of protection. But if you're parked beside another truck with a club, a thief is more likely to take the other person's truck than to cut through your steering wheel.

Important note: DO NOT attach the club to the front of the steering wheel. Attach it from BEHIND the wheel, between the steering wheel and the dash, so that the lock is facing IN, toward the gauges. Otherwise, thieves will break into your car, thinking they can use a dent puller to punch the club lock, the way they used to punch ignitions. I've seen at least one case where the thief was successful. Additionally, depending on the steering wheel, a club applied from the front can slide down and set off the car horn, especially if the car is parked facing downhill. I've used these since the early nineties. It takes literally one extra second to reach around and apply or unlock the club from behind.

Good insight, cheers for the share. Scotty Kilmer also mentioned removing certain fuses, but those connections weren't designed to have fuses and relays being pulled in and out a shit load of times like that, it would cause more harm than good.

"Drive it straight for a couple hundred miles" - LOL! I imagine the odds of that are pretty low. This is exactly what I need (one stolen car is enough), and you just explained to me how to use it & why it works. Thanks!

Great video thanks. Taking the ignition fuse out is another great one. They’ll have no idea why it won’t start. Also, get the yellow club with double hooks! No just cutting through the steering wheel anymore!

Thieves could hack this lock but most are looking for the fastest way to steal a car in less time so the hassle of dealing with this and the ignition are less of a chance they will bother. Not 100% steal proof but they most likely will move on to another car unless yours is really worth the steal and risk of time exposure in vehicle.

Thank you… very informative… you helped our daughter confirm for herself that using The Club in her car is a good idea!

Ive had clubs on my vehicles for 20 years now in several big citys. No vehicle stolen! They work. Also you can take out the chrome rod and crack someone if they need it.
Or break out a car window if you or someone was trapped in a car.

I bought my first Club after a car theft. The best deterrent is to have the lock facing the dash (and this is what the instructions suggest). Who wants to waste time defeating this when they can move on to an easier target?

Thank you for this. Several kids broke into my car and tried to steal it last weekend. They broke windows and damaged the steering and ignition but fortunately weren't successful because my car had the engine immobilizer security update but it doesn't stop someone from trying again. I got the club today but may also install a camera.

My friend had "The Club" steering wheel lock in the 80's for his car. I told him it was a fair deterrent but cut out switches and such would better along with it.
I had one too, but I had custom theft deterents in my car - I am an engineer and sadly have a criminal mind (but law abiding) so I was very creative. The Club lock used plates not pins, it was very "loose" (a lot of tolerance in the keying), and I could pick one in 5 seconds with two properly modified paper clips.
Anyway, we went out to lunch one day and he ran into a convenience store for a lottery ticket. I told him to put the Club on his steering wheel and I waited in the car. When he came out less than a minute later, I handed him his Club removed from the steering wheel, undamaged, and relocked. He wanted me to help him add theft deterrent systems for him after that.

im glad you mentioned the visual, i dont have a car but i have a bike, no bike lock is perfect, but getting a higher quality lock isnt about making your bike unstealable, its about making your bike more difficult to steal than the bike across the street, its the basic principle: if youre being chased by a bear, you dont need to outrun the bear, you just need to outrun one other person

There is a hole at the bottom of clubs with a rubber plug in it. Pull it out and use a pick to push the actuator one click at a time. Or pick the dimple lock. Or just cut the steering wheel and slide it off. It's usually really thin tubed aluminum surrounded by foam.
