Very timely video for me, having been scolded by my doctor today about not wanting to take bisphosphonates. I took them for nine years, and after stopping for a "drug holiday" my osteopenia had progressed to osteoporosis two years ago. So for the last two years, I have researched, and worked on my diet, supplementation, and exercise (no thanks to my doctor, who thinks I am non-compliant). I have resolved my leaky gut, hypertension, obesity, and chronic inflammation, all on my own. Do I get any credit for taking my health in my own hands and improving it? No, I get scolded, and told I needed "treatment" when the results of my next dexascan come in. I pray there is some improvement, because this doctor (the 2nd one I have seen for this) asked me if I took calcium and vitamin D, unaware that the research says we need vitamin K2, and should not take calcium supplements. No tests were ordered to see why I am losing bone, no tests of vitamin D or hormone levels, just "you must" take these questionable drugs because of a number on a scan. She appeared to get angry when I asked "what did all women do years ago, as soon as they turned 50, break a hip and die?" Funny we never heard about this before. The doctor said she couldn't answer that, but now there is "treatment" available. I don't mind doing this on my own, but time lost is bone lost, and I need guidance. Too bad we can't count on our doctors for this.

I was diagnosed at 50 with osteopenia which is rare for me as a man. Calcium supplements do not work as I had been taking them with multi vitamin for years. I quit drinking, started lifting weights and making bone broth soups and taking collagen supplement with Vitamin D and K2 plus lots of vegetables. Hopefully my next DEXA scan comes back with better outcome a year from now.

I also was scolded and I learned in that scolding that I knew more about the disease then the doctors! We’ll see if I can turn this around I believe I can.

I’m glad I have a doctor that doesn’t go straight to the medication route.

Hi Dr Brown. Just came upon your channel and am impressed with your approach regarding bone loss, specifically in women. However, after reviewing page after page of comments, I was amazed at the absence of remarks about vitamin K2-MK7! I’ve had my wife on K2-MK7 for a number of years now and she has consistently gained 1% bone growth per year, every year. This vitamin helps solve the issue of uncontrolled bone loss and calcium build ups in soft tissue because it seeks out the misplaced calcium and transplants it onto the bones where it belongs. I’m totally amazed at its omission in your protocol. Please research what I’ve said. It can be life changing. Thanks for your time.

I wish somebody like yourself or another doctor on YT who talks about osteoporosis would address the issue of steroids like prednisone. It’s not always a choice to stop them esp if you have something like Addison’s. And even if stopping them going off is a choice the tapering can be a very long process. Many women and men are in this position. The best I’ve heard from doctors online is to get off the medication when and as you can. That’s not always an option.

Had a PA pushing bone drugs about 15 years ago. Then moved to 2 states where 1st doc had a dexa done - so I could make my own decision. She actually didn’t support the drugs. 2nd doc didn’t even have a dexa done because she was really against the drugs. Now back in the original state & primary said nothing about results. I’m turning 70 & primary didn’t say anything but she sent me to an arthritis specialist (autoimmune condition only I think I only have some markers). That doctor started fear talking (I’m on the edge of osteoporosis in one femoral neck) & even had her front desk person lecture me! But at least it got me to pay more attention to improving those T scores!

I just subscribed, my kind of Doctor, thank you. Newly diagnosed and they are taking a look at my Parathyroid as the reason for my calcium landing in all the wrong places. I will join your blog as well. Food changes I am in, as well as weight training! Delighted to find you

A nurse practitioner said I had osteoporosis because I broke a bone skiing in 1978. Them without furthermore discussion, gave me a prescription for a biophosphate . People, question everything when it comes to your health. Biophosphates have very serious side effects. I did NOT have osteoporosis based breaking the spinous process off C- 7 when I was 28. Crazy!

Great video! I recently reversed my osteoporosis diagnosis through diet, exercise, and supplements. I added jumping to my exercise routine based on a study done at Brigham Young Univ. I posted a video about it on 1/7/22. I'm also vegan, which helps a lot. After getting the first "you have to take these meds" from my PCP doctor, I started getting my DEXA scans thru a referral by a chiropractor. That way the PCP doctor doesn't see the results.

My first scolding was when I was 58 by a doctor and he got in my face and when I told him I was wanting to study this that he informed me he did not want to be my doctor. I then found Dr Browns book and read it cover to cover. I tried to stick to a regimen of diet and vitamin but life gets in the way. Then I had a dexa scan in 2019 and my new doctor scolded me again when I told him no. I am now 67 and a new doctor I have will not give me another dexa test to see where I am. She spent 20 minutes telling me I need these drugs and that you cannot build bone at my age and it will just keep sluffing off and I will fall and break my hip or worse my back. I really need to be committed now so watching these videos really helps me.
My mother had osteoporosis as did my grandma. My mom took all the drugs and still broke her hip in a fall at 90 years old. She had been told by a doctor in her 80’s that she had thick bones but they were brittle due to them not sluffing off cos of the drugs. My mom had been dedicated he whole life to taking calcium and Vitamin D pills.
