Homemade Peltier Refrigerator Air Cooler with thermostat! How to turn an ice chest into a fridge! no ice needed. easy DIY. super easy to make. full instructions in the video. unit cools fast and maintains set temperature range by use of a lighted LED thermostat. only 4 items needed: (all items bought on amazon). 1.) 5-quart cooler (coleman) 2.) 12v/6a peltier module, 3.) 12v thermostat and 4.) a 12v plug with cord. great for all kinds of uses and at only 6a(12v) or 72 watts, it easily runs thru a cars' 12v accessory or power port. want more storage? check out my previous video... "The 5 gallon bucket fridge".. link for that is posted below *along with the 4 links to the 4 products used in this video. wanna run either of them on house current? use a 12v ac/dc transformer as shown in the video. note that the 12v peltier module i used is rated to cool up to 10 liters - so it cools fast and holds in the cold temps. also note that the unit can be made without the thermostat but for only 5 dollars more it's definitely worth using. it will consistently monitor the internal temperature and will kick the unit on and off at any pre-set temps that you decide. if you like the project please rate, sub (click bell) and share...

link to the peltier unit (about $20 but varies)

link to the lighted LED thermostat (only $4 to $5 each) - 2 pack

link to the ac to dc transformer i use (it's a 15a one so it runs the 5 gallon fridge too)

Pretty awesome, definitely a lot to be learned from your videos on how to do things in a less complicated way.

You are definitely doing a great service for your fellow man, thank you!

Can't believe I'm thinking of making one of these. It's -16 F outside right now and going to be -27 later in the week. A good inside project, I guess!

I would turn the fan around. Basically, you're warming the lid.

Pulling the air through the radiator will also reduce dust buildup.

Might need top guides if the radiator gets warmer because of this.

Neat use of peltier though!

Once it starts warming up, I'm going to have to figure something out for my off grid cabin. Been living out of an ice chest for 7 months now.

Sweet find on those thermostats... man... gets me thinking more about just using for when I find runaway cooling free freezers or maybe some other temperature controlled devices to make for an easier repair. Nice design and work!

eureka moment with the cool boxes! (best things are always the simpliest)
I have a fan, Peltier device, two heat sinks.
cut hole in top, fit cold side heat sink inside, wire up to 300W solar panel, cold bear all day long

Amazing little I'm sure i could find a good use for it out here in Arizona

I'm thinking about putting 4 of those modules in an insulated box and run an inline 12 v fan into it then run four, ducts a 4 inch to each of my rooms in my home. I'll also vent a return to the inline fan for the house and see if it will cool my home a bit 😊

Nice work once again my dude! I have been planning on playing around with a peltier-based version of your DIY dehumidifer/AWG design and seeing if I can make it work, so I am excited to see this :) Thanks as always!

I did this back in summer, but i even made the cool box from 50mm foam and ducktape as i needed a custom size...old cpu heatsinks etc, all was fine till i wired it into the van, the vans 12v has spikes from the solar charger about 3 times a second, scrambles the temp reading, works great when the sun goes

how many peltier chips do you think it would take to cool down a 119 qt cooler to 34-36 F? Have an idea for a DIY meat dry ager. Although Im thinking about using cooling blocks for the hot sides connected to an oil cooler filled with distilled water and a radiator coolant additive, which will then be submerged in freezing cold ice water for extra benefit (maybe overkill). But the goal is to maintain 34-36 degrees F at all times while meat ages for a few weeks. Insulating mods might also be considered for the inside of the cooler to prevent warming too fast, to help with efficiency of the system (less need to turn on and run)

Awesome video sir! I'm just wondering if this could work on an 8-liter cooler.

Very well done. I was searching for a peltier cooler conversion, and BAM deritis. ;) . I see the Amazon listing says 72w. I have never used the peltier devices before, but somehow I assumed they would draw less energy . Did you measure the actual current?

So before I buy, do you think this would work (well) to keep an ice chest cold for your radiator/fan cooler? I built one but struggled with the water warming up because of the heat from the punp and... ARIZONA... What do you think? I'm trying to get this set up before summer on solar. Thank you so much for your videos. You are the OG diy cool ❄ guy!

Hi, I’ve been watching your channel for quite some time now. And I just want to say THANKS FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. I need to ask you a question please answer if you can . Can a hobo stove be used indoors I need something that doesn’t require alcohol. Again thank you for helping us. Many blessings

Is basically the same set up as the 100 watt solar heater but for cooling. How the heck did you figure out all these radiotrs and thermostat and cooler parts out. So epic. I'm gonna make both of these

Apologies for asking the following. My take is that this is a chiller and not a freezer? Can this idea be jacked up to keep meat frozen with camping for instance? Here in South Africa we go to a place in the wilds where temps often reach between 40 and 50 degrees Celcius in summer. Thanks a ton for the brilliant ideas.
