Day 75 - I do a deep dive into the past, current, and possible future computer systems that control and run the Tesla cars. Hardware 1.0, 2.0, 2.5 and the future.

Did a lot of research for this video, here are my sources:

Current software version: v8.1 (2018.18.13)

Intro Song: Funk City, Movin' On

Thanks for the summaries, Nick. The improvements in electronics are pretty incredible.

Wisely, Nvidia is moving from floating point to integer. Integer math is perfectly fine for neural networks and therefore a better use of resources for AI.

Hello is the a power cable I can buy for testing this module I see people turn it on without the car

My 2021 Tesla has an overheating issue - but only during Supercharging.

The coolant temperature stays normal (around 50-55 °C),

but the Autopilot CPU (HW3) rises to 90-99 °C, according to the system info.

I'm wondering if the thermal paste on the Autopilot computer might be dry or degraded and no longer transferring heat properly.

I've already tested coolant flow multiple times and bled the system - everything seems to be working normally on the cooling side. I'm happy that somebody can help me. Thank you

Any estimates re the processing loads currently being used by the autopilot? Wondering how much more development headroom does the current hardware have.

Hopefully Tesla doesn't decide to go the route of developing its own chip, spend cash it doesn't have to spare and in the end having to find a fab like TSMC to put it in production = not really much competitive cost benefit to Tesla than just using Nvidia or Intel/ARM solutions.

Great video. I actually hope Tesla doesn't go forward with designing their own chip at this time. This seems like a huge distraction at a critical point in time- that focus should be used on the software side. They currently have the only source of big data of it's kind out there- their data is superior to Waymo and others simply due to the application of each. Personally, I think taking advantage of this data to build and continue to train the best autonomous driving AI is the best way to advance autonomous driving as a whole. Autopilot accidents are also the biggest risk to the Tesla brand at the moment. The incremental possible benefit of building their own chip isn't worth either the distraction or risk of the hardware being a setback for a while.

Ah! How about the AMD architecture they will have for Hardware 3 ?

Being employed in computer industry, I am really shocked that you published this information. I will bet my paycheck that all of this is supposedly under heavy NDA/company confidential/absolute need to know and Tesla's lawyers are NOT happy with your video.
