Is the world getting worse?

A lady went viral for asking “Can anyone pinpoint the exact moment when the world started to go to shit?”

A lot of people had very interesting answers. For almost all of human history, your average person was dirt poor and struggling to survive. In the 19th Century things started to change. #history #historyfacts #historytime

May 28th 2016 when Harambe died. Things were never the same after his death

The 2007 financial crisis. Stuff generally seemed to be going pretty well before then

It could be a number of things:

Harry Truman, Doris Day, Red China, Johnnie Ray
South Pacific, Walter Winchell, Joe DiMaggio
Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Studebaker, television, North Korea, South Korea, Marilyn Monroe.

All we know for sure is that we didn’t start the fire, it was always burning since the world’s been turning.

2020. Right before the pandemic, poverty and suicide were at their lowest.

People have just been getting more well-informed because of newspapers and then the internet, making them more aware of how bad things really are.

True, I would say that the world has really only started to suck in the last decade or so. Not because we don't have a lot of conveniences and luxuries materially, but because we have so little conflict in the world and yet so little contact. People don't know how to have or settle disputes. We're more miserable despite having it better than ever.

Material prosperity is great, but it can all disappear in an instant. Ballooning national debt, a coming demographic collapse in the developed world, threat of nuclear war, and a crisis of meaning that leads people to extremist politics should all give even the rosiest of optimists pause.

Extreme poverty before industrialization didn't mean you have nothing. It meant you had to forage or grow your own food or hunt. Those are not options for the poor of today

This is what i think :

I would have said 250 million years ago when the great dying happened, but if you're talking about the worst time in human history it would be 70, 000 years ago

When humans were no longer nomadic. They "Civilized" and created a system where not all voices are heard at the same volume. Shit ensued.

You don't really have access to any of these luxuries if you are homeless, and right now the rates of homelessness across the world and in the United States are rising exponentially with the cost of living being too high for many. We, as a society, do have access to luxuries, but the idea that everyone in it can partake in them is misinformed.

People don't seem to realize just how bad the past was, because they didn't live through it. And when you try to tell people just how much better things are now than they were 100, 500 or 1000 years ago, they just don't quite believe it.

On the contrary, the better things are, the more people seem to complain, and complain about the most stupid and ridiculous things.

Just because things were worse in the past, doesn’t invalidate the struggles people are facing today. It’s like saying “You can’t be happy, because someone has a wayyy better life than you!!”
