You can't blame the guy. When you hear "floating island" and "wind god" you'd think it'd be floating up in the sky

Maybe thats why Eurylochus was like "captain, are you sure that's aeolous's island?" Because he probably knew what a floating island was and hes like "thats not it"

Jay really said "imma put it in the sky" 😂

To be fair, when I first heard “floating island” in connection with the god of the wind I also pictured a an island in the sky a la “castle in the sky”

Tbh tho that’s how myths and legends get passed around an already crazy story gets thrown around and someone misunderstood or got confused by it and makes an equally mythic tale

Let's be honest, it's more Epic if the island is in the sky.

I genuinely thought Aeolus's island was in the sky, because that's how it is in Heroes of Olympus as well

That's amazing
Honestly every artistic masterpiece should arise from a childhood misunderstanding

I mean Rick made Aeolus have a teleporting floating castle so I didn't bat an eye at the fact it was flying

To be fair. The dude who wrote it should’ve been more specific. Because what else would someone conclude if the God of Air has a floating island 😂😂

I thought the same. It only made sense that the WIND GOD could have a flying island

Honestly, an island in the sky makes more sense for a wind god than one just floating in the water.

Well, yes, a floating island was a thing in Greek mythology. For example, Apollo and Artemis were born on one. Their mother, Leto, was "struck by lightning, " if you know what I mean, and Hera, jealous as usual, cursed them, asking the land itself to stop Leto from giving birth. For a long time Leto suffered, but there was no way she could free herself of burden until she found a floating island, Delos. Delos was not attached to the ocean floor, so it was not considered "land", and therefore Leto was finally able to give birth there.

There are of course many versions, such as that it was Poseidon who sent Leto to Delos and hid her there with the help of the waves, or that Hera also made the goddess of childbirth remain on Olympus (it must have been a fun week for all pregnant Greek women, i bet), but the main version sounds something like that.

Nevertheless, the island actually floating in the sky is a pure power move by Aeolus. Epic, just like the musical. (Thanks for your work, by the way, life is worth living when I know there will be a full version of this beautiful musical someday).

Tbf, flying islands are one of the best fantasy concepts ever!

The concept of this is so funny cuz that means when Eurylochus said
"Aye dog are you SURE thats what you think it is?"
Simply because he knows a floating island doesnt literally float, Odysseus responded with
"Yeah of course! See? It floats!😃"

It's a valid choice that adds to the larger than life gravitas of the story, just like making aeolus a chaotic neutral deity.

In the Odyssean tradition he doesn't toy with Odysseus or his men, but it's fitting for a god of, of all things, the wind to be flighty and cruel. It also kinduh airbrushes over the flimsy reason Aeolus refuses to help Odysseus when he's blown all the way back to Aeolus' island after his crew open the bag; also why Odysseus never bothers with Aeolus again. The reimagining compliments Aeolus' nature as the embodiment of the wind, a double edged sword, just like making his home an airborne estate does.

The whole point of the bag, In the musical, is to emphasize the gods don't do anything for free, everything has a price; sometimes that price is just watching humans sweat.

I do think putting it in the sky works better for the purposes of this musical.

Eurylochus: "captain but a floating island is-"
Ody: "idgaf about your floating island definition, that is a floating island if I've ever seen one."
