5 Year Old Fuel Looks AWFUL

This is fuel that sat in the tank of this 2001 Audi TT for about 5 years. To eliminate potential starting issues I drained this out and will fill it with fresh fuel.

This fuel is worse than I expected.

Having seen fuel more than twice that old, doesn't look too bad! 😂

Yeah, that stuff is nasty and rancid.

Man the TT was the worse car I’ve ever seen. Had a few of those at the dealership take a shit so bad we actually had to take it back from 3 customers and we never take cars back

More mk8 please! I just got my GTI and I’m excited. Really interested if the all track splash guard works.

Got a old volvo 244 many years ago, it had been sitting in a barn several years with half tank of fuel. Put in a fully charged battery, and after about 10sec it was running. Those old cars with carbs could run on most flammable liquids. By the way, nice vw beetle (tt is same as beatle but with another body)

Interesting. Have a 2002 TT Roadster with the baseball leather, and a 1990 Corrado with the G-later G60. Corrado hasn’t been driven in over a decade and needs an overhaul. TT needs a refresh. Wondering where to go.

How quick does gasoline turn from clear to yellow when exposed to air? I've always wondered about that

If you hadn't said that was fuel, I would have mistaken it for dirty oil. wow!

Looks like it was doing its job. It "cleaned" the tank. 👍🏼

Should I drain my tank after 1 year of sitting? It was Premium if it matters and about 20 liters in a 90 l tank? The car starts and idles smoothly but Im worried about varnish and gumming up the new injectors

Put a bottle of chevron complete fuel system cleaner in and it will actually get rid of all the varnish buildup in the lines and and tank
Doesn’t do much else but works wonders on carbureted cars.

Drained the tank on a 89 vw van and the fuel was literally black. (It sat for over 16 years) It was very much needed lol, got it running on fuel that looked like that in color after feeding it some new fuel. All she needed was a fuel pump and someone dumb enough to get it going again lol!

How does the gas smell? Like turpentine?
