What he left out is that the people are different DUE to large intrusive government.   My father was a small business owner of three separate businesses, he was a charter pilot, a gas station owner, and a commercial fisherman.  He did all of these things because in his day starting up a gas station required three things, he had to have a building with gas tanks and pumps, a supplier and customers.  Today you need those things plus a platoon of lawyers to decipher the mass of government regulation, a paid off EPA rep to clear that path there, a union thug to keep them off your back, and a dozen or so other paid off bureaucrats to keep the rest of government happy, not to mention the 57, three ring binders of certificates and licenses to operate the business.  America has become less exceptional BECAUSE of Government not in spite of it.

You seem really intelligent with an answer like that. Tell me more about your sophisticated understanding of American culture and politics.

In my view, the only only long-term solution to serious social problems and stresses is political and economic decentralisation. Bring back the "village".

...But then there is still the ghastly eugenics question. We subsidised reproduction via welfare, and support anyone's life via an advanced health system, and in the process we facilitate the accelerated breeding of the "underclass" and less-fit in general. Taboo topic? Yes. Real? Afraid so. Solution? Reproduction licenses.

Lol america is less egalitarian today? I wonder if the slaves we used to keep would agree with that statement.

It's obvious that some of those commenting here didn't even listen to what Murray said in the video.

We live in a world that is far different from our forebears. This country is sadly more divided than ever. It will take a true leader with a vision to help the American people to become united again and become one nation under God.

Sincerely,
We the People

America is fragmented... I do believe that some exceptional citizens exist, but I doubt that their relevance will be noticed for more than a few seconds. I see nothing exceptional about our schools, our scientific and technological diversity, our global impact, our sense of nationality or even our ability to agree upon definitions. Thanks to Lincoln (and others who fought to diminish the sovereignty of our States), we're all on a joyride with idiots at the wheel. America may become exceptional, as we have both the potential and the resources, if we demanded that our bought and sold nobility (our "elected" officials) be reduced once more to servitude.

America will be exceptional when it's citizenry has the greatest freedoms and a foreign policy that doesn't involve expansion of an empire.
