This follow up talk is much more compelling than the actual show it follows and worth a view. As to the show itself, meh: Nice to see "legitimate" media sources taking a close look at the issue of UAP/UFO, does not add anything to the topic for those who follow the topic. Regardless, what we need is less stigma and more research done by serious people, which is now starting to take place in spite of the resistance. There's much the well informed on the topic can and will say about this show lacking/missing much relevant info, it leaves the viewer with the correct conclusions: more data needed, less stigma for the scientists who study the topic, is how we get objective answers.

Thank You Ryan. The voice of truth and reason. 100% some of these uap cannot be explained. Unfortunately truth won't come from AAROs new director. He has honestly stated to James Fox "I can't part my own hair without DOD permission". AAROs hands are tied and will come up with ridiculous finds like birds and magical trigonometry that can 'correctly' identify an unidentified object. Telling us we can't trust our eyeballs, multiple pilots eyes on the same vehicles, multiple sensors, radars, pictures and videos.

We the people are smart enough to know we are being lied to by AARO, Pentagon, NASA and now PBS.
It's time We The People figure this out ourselves and stop letting them continue to treat us like idiots and children. Enough is Enough.

I'm not trying to explain things away.
I'm trying to explain things.

It would be awesome if that explanation was anti-gravity craft, or aliens.

7:17 artifacts of illusions aren't things that pilots like ryan graves misidentify, or that show up on military radar and sensor systems. Naval avaitors aren't just pilots, they're also engineers. it's not like these were isolated events limited to restricted airspace. Objects have also been detected underwater traveling upwards of 700kn. If there was nothing to this, there wouldn't be so much pushback for transparency, information, or over classification, let alone designated secret directives by the DOD to study the objects.

Watching that man cry on the segment last night is exactly how I felt when The Phoenix Light UFO flew right over my head in 1997. I was on a hill, the craft was low. I could clearly see the bottom of the craft with the light of my headlights and a nearby street light. Just after the craft flew over my head it was followed by a colorful mist. At that point I felt like something clicked in my head and I began crying until the craft was out of sight.

Ever since then I've become a better person, give the other guy a break more, happier, my friends and coworkers all notice the change. I sit in my house smiling for no reason, I let people cut in line, I've not honked my horn once in 28 years years when prior to this experience I did have some road rage.

What that man described is exactly how my life has changed, for the better 24 hours a day for over a quarter of a century. Most every time I speak of my sighting I cry still, happy tears, joy, gratitude. I still catch myself speaking out loud 'thank you, thank you, thank you' to whoever it was inside that craft that night.

I would love to get to share my life changing personality change of patience, love, gratitude, joy with that man. I am so grateful they included that in the segment. Of all the other witnesses to The Phoenix Lights I've spoken to none had the profound feeling of gratitude and love that I felt and it's still a constant feeling 24/7 all these years. It's like my DNA changed in a second.

Here is my clip from UFO WITNESS. The indentations at the bottom of the craft are wrong. When the actor playing me turns orange that's about the color I did turn, and the ground, from the orange dripping lava flowing down, stopping and returning back into the craft.

Nova made some huge incident reporting errors in their story:

1. The tic tac that Dietrich & Fravor encountered near San Diego was NOT caught on film nor camera.

2. The clip Mick analyzed (from which he derived his tic tac cell phone pool experiment) was from a different flight/mission... not the single incident with Fravor and Dietrich in the air. That is an immediate and blatant red flag to mislead the public about the incident. You must immediately throw out any subsequent analysis, claims, or experiment by West and Nova because that clip is not what Fravor and Dietrich encountered. There is no video of that incident.

The tic tac was caught on two separate radar systems located on two different ships in the group over a period of weeks. It was also caught simultaneously on cockpit radar in both jets. Additionally, there was wash beneath the object being kicked up, and possibly a 2nd object under the water's surface, which the tic tac was hovering above when it was ping ponging, causing white water disturbance.

3. AT NO POINT was Fravor or Dietrich watching the tic tac using a cell phone or video sensor. They were watching it with their eyes while also tracking it on radar, so that foolish experiment is completely ridiculous with zero bearing. That is not how science works, bro.

Prior to both pilots visually seeing it, they were on a separate training mission and were dispatched by the battle ship to check out the object because prior to that although it had often been seen on radar, it was never visually investigated by the eyeballs of pilots to solve the mystery.

Both pilots and co-pilots all saw the same thing.

Mick West was doing an experiment that doesn't apply to a visual sighting by two independent jets with crew and 4 separate radar systems simultaneously.

His experiment doesn't account for water disturbance, which actually made for a fantastic frame of reference to prevent parallax, plus the fact that the object was tracked and confirmed negates trying to dismiss it at home with a cell phone.

The object demonstrated engagement, then instantaneous excelleration, then the object (or one just like it) popped up at the squadron's cat point about 50 miles away.

What is really disappointing about this Nova program is that they paid Mick West, who is not a pilot or scientist, to perform a ridiculous non-scientific farce, as though it has any application or can negate the military's radar and best trained observers and battle ships, all tracking the object visually and with radar.

But on top of this, Nova misidentifies an unrelated video to try to claim it was the same event, then base a phony experiment on that lie by hack with a website that has no qualifications.

Nova blatantly disregarded multiple pieces of important evidence. Nova also doesn't mention that the tic tac incident was followed by a 2nd tic tac incident with different pilots that same afternoon. Additionally, Nova also omitted that none of the 4 Navy pilots have ever been engaged by an object like this before or since and are able to speak to the object's rarity and performance.

Also, the squad that followed up on pursuing the object later that afternoon, they have additional information ignored by Nova.

I am not going to get into the gimbal video because that is another can of worms. The go-fast clip being birds sounds plausible, except for the fact that pilots and radar controllers don't track birds moving at absurd speeds doing what the objects were doing tracked by the pilots and the fighter group.

The program also left out Ryan Graves' report of a sphere in a cube that split a pair of jets.

Nova also failed to mention that Kirkpatrick's work has been under scrutiny by many professional investigators and scientists because of his bias and tendency to misrepresent cases in favor of misinforming the public.

Nova also failed to disclose Mick West has zero training as a pilot using any of the equipment used by the Navy.

Also, the cell phone demonstration by West is not using the same equipment as on the jet in the same conditions to replicate the effect experimentally, which immediately is a confound. That means you must reject ALL results and avoid any conclusions because it is inaccurate.

In the same conditions, pilots often encounter birds, balloons, and drones, and with flir and infrared combined with their advanced radar, none of them report seeing bird UAP all the time. The radar tells you speed, especially when the objects are confirmed by radar controllers, pilots, and/or battle ships, so thinking a bird is a UAP is essentially impossible.
Nova also seems to have deliberately omitted the features of how these radar actually work accurately when multiple systems can simultaneously track a single object.

It's unbelievable the show would go to these lengths to mislead its viewers. Who funded this show? If you follow the money, it's gotta be a grant related to the government or defense industry. Only they would put out garbage psuedoscience like this by a YouTuber and a disreputable shill who already has a questionable history by the community of actual scientists who study this phenomena seriously.

Big thank you to Ryan, Alex, and Matt for providing the comprehensive discussion that is necessary to bring to light the totality of the circumstances surrounding the multiple high quality sensors and expert training of the pilots that seemed to be lost in the documentary.

I would disagree with Alex that we should try to "debunk". Using that language in itself presents bias. What we should do is "analyze" the totality of the data along with the eyewitness testimony and note the possibilities. It should be peer reviewed before being published. I suspect Alex believes the same but merely used different language and, when it comes to this topic, language matters if we want scientists to be allowed to take this seriously.

What is mind blowing is the level of push back and direct lies by the Pentagon during recent events. You cannot just say to our pilots and the public 'we don't know what these are but they are not a threat' and expect people to take them seriously. Direct evidence of harm was presented and ignored at the press conference with the Pentagon in December. A medivac chopper was prevented from flying due to the incursion over NJ which put a woman's life at risk. This was confirmed by the local gov't. as well as law enforcement and multiple media sources. When asked about that, the Pentagon stood by their statement that the objects were not a threat and would not explain the grounded chopper. Either the govt knows what they are, refuse to say, and are willing to put our pilots and possibly national security at risk, or they don't know what they are and have no way to defend against them or worse, are choosing not to do so. In any case, harm has been done and they seem fine with it. I'm not okay with that. We need transparency and accountability.

When I say harm has been done, in addition to the woman above, I'm talking about near misses with military, private, and commercial aircraft. There have been incursions in airspace over airports, military bases, and weapons sites that have caused airspace to be closed in the US and abroad, all confirmed by media and local gov't....and there is much more. I would encourage everyone to do their own careful, analytical research...and look up when you go outside. Btw, these things do not abide by FAA airspace restrictions. They continued to fly in NJ in spite of restricted airspace. I have no idea what these things are but there is far to much evidence to dismiss and say 'nothing to see here'. Lives are at stake.

so awesome to see Matt here on this topic. Maybe finally the stigma and ridicule can die down to allow genuine science to tackle this topic.
I'm as skeptical as any but we can't and shouldn't stop people studying this because there's a preponderance of evidence, just nothing science can tackle yet. So let's kill the stigma and allow genuine and open investigation.

It's wise to mistrust our biases. It's also wise never to say "never."
It's possible to remain genuinely open-minded without abdicating our intellects. Great show!

Regarding expectation and zeitgeist evolving with UFO/UAP sightings, could also be tied in with the thoughts of people like Jacques Vallee. Passport to Magonia is pretty nuts.

NOVA really put the BS in PBS with that “special”… Promoting Mick West’s goofy pool video over veteran pilot testimony and corroborative radar and video data is so insanely unscientific and insulting.

Oh you guys decided to go the history channel route, no wonder science is being eroded and denied all over the internet, thanks for helping with that Nova. Matt I really thought better of you given the state of things, I guess the all mighty dollar speaks louder than facts. Oh I seen how you tried couching this in actual science but instead you just gave credence to all the conspiracy theorist out there, good job.

PBS did a rather one sided story on this topic. Something I find very disturbing considering the track record of this NOVA series. Skepticism is fine, but I will take the impressions of the aviators over that of the failed AERO head, or a game creator on a stepladder.

Good show. I watch Alex Hollings' "Air Power" all the time as well as other topics and know he is a critical thinker and does his research as thoroughly as possible. I respect his views on the UAP issue. Ryan Graves is an experienced military pilot with first hand experience who is concerned enough to get involved in the entire UAP issue. These are the type of people we need exploring the issues of UAP's as well as many many more scientists and military/civilian observers and contributors. Eventually, I hope we can get to the bottom of this.

The Nimitz incident remains the most significant encounter. The UAP in question departed the workup area. The United States refuses to disclose the tic tac rate of speed. Nova should host Kevin Day the most important UAP witness to date. Kevin Day did not use his cell phone to identify the coordinates of The tic tac.

Give Professor Simon his due credit. Technically disclosure has already taken place when the United States awarded disability benefits, due to UAP exposure. The disability claim was adjudicated. This is not up for debate.
