The best part of this video was that this topic has brought out all the experienced toppers, and I’m learning a lot from their insights

Pigeons i been experimenting with this topic and my yields are 35-45% better when i top my ladies . I get way more tops and thicker buds!

Lots of reasons to top plants and forego apical dominance for axial dominance. Outdoor growers benefit greatly from topping once early in the season to help get wide bushes. Indoor and greenhouse growers benefit by being able to control the number of branches that grow into a common culture canopy. I find much more even distribution of hormones and rebound growth with topping vs pinching/bending. Best time to top is at the end of lights off cycle, or first thing when lights on. Plant stores hormones in roots that go to the meristem during photosynthesis. Topping at night or early morning prevents loss of storred hormones that would otherwise get removed with the top.

Every single cannabis plant I’ve ever topped lead to a stronger plant, spaced out the branches so that I didn’t need to low stress train and led to a MUCH larger yield. If you know what you’re doing, and exactly when to top them it’s almost a must😂

What do you think happens when you squeeze/super crop or bend a top over? Stress to the plant. The only way to not stress the plant is to not train it at all. Through 20+ years of growing, I could tell you that training is the more popular and better choice. Not to mention it is better suited for your small space DIY grows.

Different strokes for different folks. I've seen proof topping works coupled with lst plants

Its not even a lot of stress, Look at me a Kaligrownbudz where growing 8ft + tall and 8 ft wide plants. The ones i care give for got more sun than mine did and mine still got 5.5ft tall x 6ft. wide. If you want big out door trees your gonna have to top the plant. If your growing in a 4x4 tent just bend them but your still gonna get more bud if you top its just proven science, It doesn't even bother the plant that much if it did we wouldn't have these trees.

I think topping is good.. It gives both vertical and horizontal growth but also promotes more bud consistency.

yeah it might not be necessary for casual home growers, but commercial growers trying to maximize yield and efficiency it's definitely helpful if not necessary

Interesting perspective, i would say this would be a good idea if starting late with an outdoor grow.
On the side of topping, controlled stress can actually trigger the plant to produce growth hormone which causes the plant to grow even larger, and hardier.
It acts as a defensive/survival mechanism that cannabis adapted to counter damage from animals eating parts of it.
Almost every plant ive seen damaged from grazing animals, it caused this super charged type of growth.
I topped, and LST'd my outdoor plants, and they are all massive 9'-10' tall, and roughly 6'-7' diameter, with many dozens of branches that have colas the size of my arm.

All training causes stress, that's why it's called low stress training. Topping correctly can also be a "low stress" training method and in my experience the plant doesn't seem to be stunted but rather grows faster after topped. Also topping doesn't stop vertical growth, plants always grow toward light source. It just helps spread the light intensity more evenly to all branches

I pretty much always top my clones when they are small. I usually do it to slow them down though. It's very useful in a perpetual setup.

Always top your plants. It leads to stronger side branches, healthier plants and larger yields. This works in nearly every plant I grow including peppers and tomatoes. Plants in the wild will be eaten by animals and chewed on etc and it is a natural thing to happen. Also the plant recovers much stronger from a bit of stress. I understand this channel is for beginners but if you understand what you're doing purposefully stressing the plants be it by watering, temperature, wind flow etc, actually leads to higher yields and more resin glands due to the fact the plant literally develops resin glands as a defence mechanism. If you want higher cannabinoids and higher terps I urge you to not be afraid of stressing a plant out. If it's healthy to begin with then there is literally nothing the plant cannot recover from after all it is a natural weed.

It's great to have counterintuitive views shared. We recently reduced our topping schedule, and now only top late stage veg, when the plant already has some size. It's been great for us.

Topping and scrogging go hand in hand ☯️, young Jedi, much to learn you still have....

Topping creates more tops but at the same time what you call a slow growth period or stunting is actually the plant creating more roots and thickening of the stems and branches to compensate for the extra tops that was created..a topped plant will be thicker and have a larger root system. That is not a bad thing when it comes to yield. Cannabis isn't a household plant it belongs outside and nature kicks the crap out of it and the plant overcomes by getting bigger and thicker to handle the harsh environment. This stress causes the plant to create more thc. More thc is what alot of growers look for. Good topic by the way.

I have watched you and the other fellas a while now. As a seasoned grower you still shake this old tree, so here's one from the late 80's. Couple inches down the meristem, where the stem is still soft, just pinch enough to cause it to fall over. It's ok, I know, you heard that before! couple days, back to normal but oxins drive the lower branches to boom. Cheers from cental B.C. Craft growers rule! Keep up the great content young man.

To each their own. Thanks for your input and time teaching others.
I FIM my auto's and it made a huge difference for me. Went from 10 oz from 5 lst plants to an average of 2.5/ 3 lbs from fimming all 5. Both ways had the same setup. With the only difference being fimmed.
I don't agree with anyone saying don't do this or that or vice versa.
Do what works best for you and your plants!
Happy growing everyone!!🤟✌️

I am no expert as only growing 2 years; but I heard the term 'genetic expression of the plant' and it struck a chord with me. I only grow autos and ever since I just leave them alone. I now have an explosive Jungle in my tent and I enjoy the chaos of nature. Best of all I don't get stunted growth. My life is chaos so I suppose my grow style reflects that.

Just did a run where I didn't top...MUCH less yield. I'm indoors btw. I feel like topping is important indoors because it allows for an even light spread to the buds. Outside the sun is constantly hitting in different spots around it evenly spreading, so no need to top. I top once, then fim around a few times and will continue this method from now on.
