What's even more amazing than the plane surviving is that they fixed that massive damage and got it back in the air!!!

My Granffather was the Navigator of the plane. He sadly passed a few years ago. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for this mission as he was flying as the Co Pilot. I saw the photos of it that my grandfather took himself.As he tells it what actually happened was the fuselage though heavily damaged with most of the roof of it gone remained intact until the landed and then suddenly broke on half and fell off though it had barely been hanging on for about the last 45 min of their mission. My Granddad went on to fly 50 missions over Occupied Europe, completing the standard 25 and rotating to non combat duty and then later volunteering for another 25 instead of just returning to his farm as he could have.

This is probably one of the most accurate accounts of the incident. Even Jablonski got some of the details wrong!

Are you sure that was fixed ? That airframe looked to far gone to fix. Maybe?

I seen a video that the pilot did not accidentally crash into the plane but done it on purpose as that’s what they was trained to do
