Recently, we’ve encountered a new invasive species in North America, the Giant Asian Hornet, or as they’ve been so alarmingly dubbed, Murder Hornets, but are they as dangerous as their name might suggest?

the scary thing about the hornets is that they exhibit a type of intelligence that we normally attribute to birds, making them capable of things we don't expect from insects.

I lived in Japan, never had an issue with these guys. They're freaking enormous, but they seem to largely mind their own business.

Plot twist: While the American Honeybees don't have a response to Asian Hornets, Asian Hornets don't have a response to Africanized Honeybees.

So no one's going to talk about how Japanese honey bees literally cook the wasps as a defense??

I live in Chiang Mai, Thailand and have been stung by a Asian giant hornet, whilst out riding my bike in the country, thing is they are huge, and I saw this one from a distance but seemed to veer into me and tagged me on me left thigh, sat there a moment then flew off. I can relate to the initial pain, it was a physical shock to the system. I stopped and got off the bike, and sat in the road as a wave of disorientation swept over me, and I was seeing waves of colours and I was nauseous . Meanwhile a large red welt had already developed with a small black spot in the centre. After a few minutes I felt like I could stand again and indeed, slowly rode the 10 km back home. by then my whole thigh had swollen up and was very hot to the touch. I got the wife to drive me to a local clinic and the doctor gave me a antihistamine injection and pain medication. That small black spot grew to around 3-4 mill across and eventually a fell off leaving a cone shaped divot from the dead skin.... I used to live in Australia and been stung by bull ants and they are a laugh compared to that bad boy...

I really don’t like how their stingers pulsate, it’s so unnerving. Like it’s full of venom getting ready to inject all of it into your face.

Person: "Oh no! Get out of the pool! It's a giant hornet!"
Hornet: "Yeah.. back away. That's right."
Person: "Oh god! Someone help us!"
100 Japanese Bees: "Hold our soda cans."
