Third year student here, some general advice is:

.Take notes based on what your instructer is saying, not the slides/board

.Ask questions, engage, don't be afraid to speak up

.Email and communicate with your professor, they will help you on assignments most the times

.Do coursework and studying in-between and after lectures, much easier to be productive when you're already concentrated and "in the zone"
