There's a reason most YouTube videos look so
awful. They haven't been shot or edited well,
but they also haven't been prepared for the web.

Would you like to know how to make a crystal clear
video upload in one minute rather than 5 hours?

Do you have 10 minutes? That's all it will take
to change the look of your videos forever.

Enjoy...

Yes. That's why I made the video; to share those settings.

Very good info Steve. You are Mr. SMOOTH.

You mean the technical quality? Just watch the video and follow the directions. It works for all videos coming out of almost any kind of camera. And yes, yours too.

I uploaded short video on YouTube less then 20 seconds using HandBrake. Thank you Steven.

Do you see artifacts in this video? Probably not. That's because when you do the compression correctly, none are introduced. This is a must if you're using tape, because very often you have interlacing issues to deal with, and the second pass takes care of those. There are other reasons, but I won't go deeply into them right now. Digitalization will have to wait another day...

Yipes! If you can't output an MP4, you're going to be severely limited. But for YouTube at least, you can upload almost anything and it will then be transcoded into something that can be seen. You could do avi for a PC or .mov if on a Mac.

Yep. I used the exact method I outlined. Since then I've also begun using Handbrake as a "control" to see if I can get the sizes down even more, but this method is still the winner in my book because it seems to get even smaller sizes than Handbrake without losing quality.

I'm sure you've heard the acronym GIGO. (garbage in, garbage out) So the answer is yes. The question is why a video would digitize jittery in the first place. The only reason would be that the raw footage was jittery and that's just operator error, unfortunately. It doesn't have to be that way.

It depends a lot on the size of the video. For 640 x 360, use 500kbps. For 1280 x 720 use 1000 and for 1920 x 1080 use 1500. for YouTube you can use as high as 3000 kbps. It's all in the size. I couldn't make one video that covered every single video in the world so I tried to cover principles and methodology.

Thanks, Tina! You don't need something quite as fancy as AE 6 with its steep learning curve. But any newer Apple computer with Final Cut Pro and Photoshop would provide you with almost everything you need.

I use Screenflow as I'm on a Mac. Camtasia is good if you're on a PC.

The software will allow you to use the default frame rate it was "shot" at, so that's probably best, as it's likely you won't know that number.

Right. And often that will make it so big that it can't really play here. Glad to help!

Thank you for responding. I appreciate it. Now i know.

Awesome intro Steve. Regarding the encoding: 1) I was surprised your workflow has a double encode - 1st to MOV, then to H.264 which would seem to offer additional artifacts. 2) While I also like frequent keyframes, we wouldn't want it less than the frame rate. BTW, you'd be surprised by the meaning of the word "digitalization" - it took me some time to learn I meant digitization so I'm hoping you're not going to revert to the medical term (wink)

Nice, Steve. I took notes. All those settings have had me pretty confused in the past. You make a good case for the value of Quicktime Pro.

Very good tutorial. I never thought about rendering videos or converting them with quicktime pro but I will consider doing so. I am on a mac but also use pc

Great tip Steve, loved your video and will try to put it into practise. My videos can't be seen on an Iphone, which is diminishing my chances with a possible customer that was interested to see what I have to show but probably won't worry to go home and check it again. This happens especially when you upload a video link in Facebook, most people have the FB app on their phones. So I'm all for trying your suggestion! Thanks for this video...

You're welcome! For iPhones and the like, drop down to 480 x 270 and see if that works better.
