I hope Egypt keeps the name permanently. Imagine the sci-fi-esque vibes of a story set in "New Administrative Capital, Egypt"

Nusantara's environmental concerns reminds me the engineering adage: The greenest building is one that's already built

The main reason Egypt is moving their capital is not due to overcrowding, but to get the important government infrastructure and officials away from a potentially rebellious population.

I guess you could actually say it is overcrowding... Overcrowding of poor people.

did you know that the Netherlands and France made a treaty last year to finally demarcate the border in the island of Sint-maarten? It is not yet in effect tho.

I am currently in Indonesia and even by the start of september everything was full of national flags and other symbols. I asked about it and even usually the celebrations of their Independence Day last the whole month, but this year everything was especially grand because it was celebrated in the future capital. I can't imagine what next year it's going to be like with a rounder number of the anniversary and the capital proclaimed official.

Never understood the fascination of living in a capital, especially a heavily congested one, but I swear damn near every Asian country is like that, they all got capital syndrome. Also in Jakarta's defense I doubt the initial Dutch planners ever intended for the city to get that big to begin with, also I think they would've done something long before the sinking got bad if they still had control of it, they do have a weird superpower of fighting back water after all.

That said I do not think either of these capitals are gonna go the way the governments want them to go, I mean Egypt has tried to move the capital like what 4 or 5 times now? And its failed every time since all they do is just build around Cairo, rather than actually moving the capital to say somewhere else along the Nile, they should really take a hint from their ancestors. Plus lets be real here the only reason for that current new capital is to make it coup proof and for no other reason than that.

I don't see Indonesia's capital panning out much better either, in fact I think its likely going to mimic Brasilia more than anything. It'll siphon off a few million people, but Jakarta will still be the huge population center that it is currently, much like how Rio is still Brazil's 2nd largest city, despite Brasilia being the capital for over half a century at this point and just barely making the 5th place spot.

Aside from Bougainville, the prime minister of Albania has announced that they plan to form a sovereign state in the middle of Albania's capital of Tirana known as the Sovereign State of the Bektashi Order, for the Sufi Bektashi Order in Albania, similar to modern-day Vatican City or the historical Malta ruled by the Knights Hospitaller, who still continue on as a sovereign entity, so we might see two new countries in the future.

How much do you wanna bet Nusantara's the new capital city of Indonesia by tomorrow?

I am tired of non Indonesian missconception of Indonesia's moving capitals becuase of enviromental problem. Yes it is a problem and the jakarta governor has been trying to fix it like decades, but it's just cherry on top. The main reasons is to spread out the development because it's too java centric and give more unity because it's on the center of Indonesia.

Both Indonesia and Egypt new capital city are basically having the same purpose, to get away from potentially rebellious population centre

as much that Nusantara as Indonesia's new capital city
I could only hope that it'll not ended up like Naypyidaw (alot of HUGE infrastructure & yet only a few ppl live there)
