Mike actually gives really good advice. I had a civil suit when I was in my mid twenties and I hired a divorce attorney lol. We settled, but looking back had I hired a more experienced personal injury attorney I could've received so much more. I also had a terrible probate lawyer (that my sister hired) that had 1 yr experience, he was terrible. I recently was a victim of malicious prosecution and hired an absolute pit bull. His law firm was top tier and he had Practiced law for almost 30 years. The other side dropped the suit. However the Americn rule (which I learned about then) meant I had to pay my own costs. I could've countered but it was someone who needs help and it was worth the trouble to me. These questions are imperative and surprisingly most people ask very few questions just trusting the lawyer because they have a juris doctorate. Good stuff Mike.

The one time I needed a lawyer he made sure to answer these questions to my 20 y/o self at the time upfront. He was a very helpful guy. I should have taken his advice and taken it to court:P

Asking about taking to trial is Some will get mad at you for not settling and try dropping you at the end.

Lol when I was looking for a lawyer the one said “oh if I new you were a licensed professional I would’ve charged you double”. Considering I knew I was innocent and had footage to back me up I just went with another lawyer. I just needed someone to represent me since it was out of state.

Don't get me wrong, always go with someone who has experience... but don't rule out the new people either, I mean how will they get experience unless someone gives them a shot?

In 1999 I had to hire a probate lawyer to get my part of my dad's estate. The minute I sat down with her in the consolation I saw she was wearing earrings of the word "Bitch." I hired her and was not disappointed in the least.
