Sleep is that girls last problem. Her partner is abusing alcohol at night, joking about cheating on her, repeatedly disrespecting her boundaries, is physically aggressive (pushes her onto the bed in anger) and repeatedly inconveniencing her and lying. Anyone who gets satisfaction from making you upset is a red flag. Just get out now girl

Story 4: This sounds like the BF was intentionally torturing OP, she switched bedrooms he still goes into a room he now has no reason to, she has an important appointment; he goes in turns on the lights and lifts the eye mask off her face, this couldn't be more deliberate.

In many states, theft of prescribed medicine is a crime, so I hope HR knows that their boss could end up in jail for a year for what they did.

Story 2: Sounds like a joke she heard before to me. maybe the reason no one is taking OP seriously is because this isn’t the first time the family joke about her like that. And joke or not the bottom line is she offended her aunt and wasn’t sorry. Don’t bite the hand that feed you.

"It's just a joke, Aunt!"
"It's my money, Niece!"

Sleep deprivation is considered a torture and a violation of international law.

That sleep story really hit home... I stayed with an ex for about a month when I was having trouble finding a place. The first week was okay, we would go to sleep at a reasonable time since I got up around 5am to get to work on time. Then, his female "friend" started staying over every single night. Keep in mind this is a one room, one bed scenario. She convinced him to stop taking his sleep meds at 10pm and start taking it at 4am when she did. They would stay up all night in the same room I was trying to sleep in, talking, laughing, playing YouTube out loud and even bouncing on the bed. I spoke to them about it frequently but after a few weeks like that I finally lost it and screamed at them both, slamming doors and throwing things. I moved out that night.

Story 4: If you’re thinking “oh, five or six hours of sleep is plenty!” let me set the stage for you: a few years ago, I was regularly only getting between 5 and 6 hours of sleep a night. I wanted more time for my hobbies and doing them at night made sense. It wasn’t worth it. I experienced health problems. I had an overload of cortisol, a stress hormone, in my system, just from lack of sleep. I had high blood pressure, mood swings, and my body hurt all the time. While getting a normal amount of sleep fixed most of my issues, some effects are permanent. I’m afab and apparently facial hair growth is caused by excess cortisol, so now I get to wax my chin for the rest of my life. Don’t fuck with someone’s sleep, and if you’re regularly getting less than seven hours of sleep a night, don’t assume you’ll be fine.

The sleep deprivation was absolutely intentional, it makes people easier to control if they're sleep deprived.

As to the American woman, it might be sensitive for some Americans, but also tough shit because feeling special like that is usually for the sake of flexing on others or talking down to them.

The manager being in the hospital due to a safe dose of laxatives actually makes a lot of sense and shouldn't really worry OP about his health. He didn't know he took laxatives, from his perspective he has sudden extreme uncontrollable diarrhea for no obvious reason. Going to a doctor would be an obvious next step, and the doctors wouldn't automatically assume he'd been unknowingly dosed with a massive amount of laxatives, so cause unknown, admit him for further observation and fluids.

Story 2: NTA. I bet the niece learned those jokes from her parents/other family members

Story 4: right he’s doing it on purpose, and she was right to leave, but she probably knows that by now.

Story 4: This was like opening a closet and a wave of red flags fell out

I too am aware that sleep deprivation is in fact torture, in fact I have suffered from it at the hands of my entitled brother all year and the year before!!!

The fourth story is genuinely concerning. He is literally intentionally sleep-depriving her. From the sound of his reactions and the paterning, he was trying to exert some form of control or got some sick enjoyment out of tormenting her. He is at minimum a sociopath, at worst, a psycopath. Glad OP ran.

One of the A Levels I did was Psychology, and one of the studies we looked at was about sleep deprivation (done in the 60s or something and would probably be considered HIGHLY unethical today). Anyway, the effects of continual sleep deprivation are terrifying and can cause severe mental health issues, some of which can be permanent. Any parent of a newborn can attest to how difficult sleep deprivation is! I don’t blame the OP in the slightest for losing it. I’m glad she dumped that idiot.

2nd Story: NTA. No rSlash, it is said out of malice. Emily never apologized, and rolled her eyes and tells OP to lighten up when she confronted her. She KNEW thst would upset her but said it anyway. If the brother saw no problem in what Emily did, then HE should pitch in.

Sleep story. That ex boyfriend was definitely on drugs.

The German story. I'm Canadian by birth, but not genetically. I still call myself Canadian because that's all I know culturally and linguistically. There's so much more to a person than where their ancestors were born, and to fixate on that is shallow.

12:20 if she doesn't speak German, why's she correcting someone on how to speak German??

Story 1: OP has every right to be mad about the financial infidelity. And the wife deserves that score. However, we don't really have enough info about the emergency surgery to determine OPs score. I can think of a few things that aren't life threatening, but if left unchecked may result in a great deal of pain or further complications. If you want to be petty, fine. But do it over something that doesn't potentially affect the health and safety of your spouse.
