Adobe DROPS Figma merger (I predicted this last year)

Last year, the software GIANT Adobe announced that it's buying the up-and-coming design platform Figma. That deal has now been abandoned. In this video that I made shortly before the announcement last year, we take a deep dive into the impending merger of Adobe and Figma, which was expected to cost $20 billion, making it the biggest ever acquisition of a private software company. The deal garnered a lot of attention and raised concerns among antitrust regulators, who did oppose the merger, as I expected. As an antitrust lawyer, I discuss the complexities of merger control law and explain how antitrust regulations work to ensure competition in the market. We explore the significance of this merger, its potential implications, and the possible outcomes. Hej! Thanks for the video. I liked how you described the problem and I believe that it is a tragedy that today many successful small companies decide to sell their business to giants. Also, it is a bit stupid that sometimes the same people complain about monopolies but technically, by selling their business, create these monopolies.

I just want to comment your conclusion. First, I do not think that there is anything like laissez-faire in today's world. It is very hard to start a business and follow some of the rules that do not make sense, t.ex. in Sweden, where I live also. Second, you said that if there is no competition, then there is no benefits and so on. So, I can say, that if there is no competition, it is not market economy, it is a corporatism, that actually we observe right now: a lot of big monopolies that are close to the governments. Therefore, I am not sure that the division of very this government that deals with antitrust laws could be effective in any way to solve today's problems.

Good video. I respectfully disagree with the conclusion. If figment has proven a market need and adobe puts its lights out, the need will still be there and competition will crop up at some point. Will it go on to threaten adobe? Who knows. But it’s inevitable. Too many people stay up all night trying to make the best big thing.
