In this lesson, we will learn about the basic definition of a ratio in math. A ratio is a comparison of two items where both items have the same units involved. A ratio allows us to scale up or scale down. For example, a recipe that calls for 1 egg for every 2 cups of flour will use 2 eggs and 4 cups of flour if it was doubled. A unit rate gives us a comparison of how much of one item there is compared to one unit of another item, where the units are not the same. For example, a car travels 100 miles on 5 gallons of gas. That car travels on average at 20 miles per 1 gallon of gas, or 20 mpg.

Hello again, I am learning Algebra for the first time and I am 54. I am an RN who is now homeschooling my granddaughter. She is going into high school this fall. I appreciate all of your videos. Would you happen to have any exams or quizzes for Lessons 1-34? It is hard to find some on line with the answers provided. If you can direct to some you may have that would be great. Have a blessed day.
