Thank u for the visual explanation. I was really in need of such an explanation.

Thanks David. To add more, traction force is what we can apply in a range that static friction allows before slippage

Wow! And that is why a full lockup and wheelspin in motorsport offer less grip to the racing driver. And that is also why ABS is such an important safety feature

Since friction force is a self adjusting force, it should be equal to the force experienced by CM of the tyre (until it reaches static value) for pure rolling to occur. So in a way friction helps in pure rolling by making the contact point stationary.

If the acceleration of bike keeps on increasing, friction keeps on increasing and after friction reaches static value, it will not be able to support further rolling. Then slipping should start and constant kinetic friction will take over (assuming flat surface).

This is what happens on wet or icy roads, where friction becomes lower than usual and the tendency of vehicle to skid becomes high even at low accelerations because both static and kinetic frictions are lowered.

Sir in rolling motion in rotation chapter, why we use kinetic friction .we should use rolling friction which has different formula as compared to kinetic friction

Hi, How about the direction of the friction? which direction is it for the two cases?

Wouldn't be there any friction in vertical direction?

If it is static friction, then why it is smaller than kinetic friction?

can anyone explain why locking (=when the wheels stop rotating) increases stopping distance of a car? (in terms of the friction)

Isn't this Kinetic friction to rolling friction?

I think it's better to name it rolling friction

Ha ha, then what is rolling friction ??
