The Biggest Mistake Creators Make as Entrepreneurs

There's one big mistake that I see most new creators making in the first year of building their own. When I started my digital creator journey as a blogger and 2011, and then became a podcast in 2014 and then became a YouTuber in 2017... I still kept making this mistake year after year.

The biggest mistake that I see new content creators make in their first year of building a side hustle or building a business is the hesitancy to actually sell a product.

I do think there are a lot of really good reasons that people wait to pitch and promote products, like audience building, making sure you're dialed in on niche, making sure that you have product market fit.

My name is Matt Ragland I help creators be more productive and profitable with simple systems, deep work, and consistent output.

Every week I publish a new video about these topics, so if you want to get more of the right work done in a fun, easy-to-follow format - please subscribe on YouTube and to my email list. Thanks!

What's your product idea? Keep it short, simple, and under $100. You can always improve the offer, add lessons, and raise the price later!

My biggest mistake was not niching down enough in the beginning. Use the value you have and focus on that until people care about the person

Quilt patterns.

Start as PDFs and the small, easy patterns would be $5-$7 each.

The intermediate to advanced would be $10-$15 each.

Several patterns; with a mix of difficulty or with a singular theme, can be combined into a book $25-$35 depending on printing cost. And the the cadillac version of the books or printed patterns would be where a new-to-the-industrey combination of items would be the higher priced item. depending on the cost of production....

Keeping the day job of course and making production costs back at first.

Really enjoyed this chat - thanks Matt! My product idea is a digital co-working space for course creators where they can find distraction free focused time to take action.

Great video, Matt. Thanks for sharing your ideas and mindset. Your creator stack course looks cool...could be one of those money goals you talked about.

Great video. I am inspired to start writing out some course and product ideas. I have a few half-formed ideas in my head that I need to work on. One is on finding high return-on-invested-capital (ROIC) stocks.

Do you have any ideas for people who want to start an online business, but can't access PayPal or one of the other international cash out options?

(I live in a country with economic sanctions against it. I am not a member of the sanctioned political party. I disagree with the people whose actions earned us all sanctions. I prefer sanctions to foreign invasion. I understand why PayPal and Spotify refuse to deal with us. At the same time, I just want a freaking PayPal account so I can earn a visa to somewhere without sanctions!)
