I recently had to explain the term, "Autogynephile, " to my older, religious conservative parents. (We recently had a man wearing a bra ejected from the restroom at our local Walmart.) I tried to explain why the man was there and what he was doing, that this was something more than playing dress up. They were horrified and grossed out. A lot of people just don't know what they are seeing with these men. I've been in radical feminist and lesbian discussions online for 15 years, so I try to explain how these men first tried infiltrating lesbians spaces for purposes of harming them. I find that people are sympathetic to the women and horrified by practices and mental illnesses that they just have never heard of before.

I'm at the half-way mark of this video and paused to comment. So far, this is the most rational commentary I've seen online from someone "on the left." I am not on the left. I am an American and a radical feminist in a red state in the Midwest, which has become engulfed in crime and poverty that has accelerated in the past four years. Everybody I know, who voted, voted Trump. Gender identity isn't much of a thing here. It's an agricultural and manufacturing community with not of a lot of life's luxuries. People here are worried about keeping a roof over their heads and keeping a job. Most don't really understand gender identity. I doubt if you could have a conversation about it without having to give a lot of background explanations. They do know that men are men and women are women. It's not much of a question here.
