Stay clear of roles that aren't going to help you. If you want to be a data analyst then I have you covered.

I love the directness you apply in your videos, no BS involved. That is why I cherish your videos. You have reset my mindset on what it takes to be a data analyst. Thanks

List of roles I have heard of that deal with data off the top of my head:
1. Data Analyst - Entry Level
2. Data Engineer
3. Business Analyst - Entry Level
4. Business Intelligence Analyst
4. Data Scientist
5. Applied Scientist
6. Quantitative Analyst
7. Database Admin
8. SQL Developer (I think dealing with data is just a byproduct of the fact that they build for it)
9. Data Architect

Would appreciate any insights/feedback on the lesser known ones, like applied scientist, or if there are other roles you have heard of in your experience.

I’m so glad that my Quora question provoked that video. Sure I will try to move ASAP from BA to data analyst
Thanks!

Don't know how i stumbled on this but im a BA in an IT dept.. maybe im an outlier but I use SQL for hours daily. I use plsql, design schemas, perform etls, build power bi data models and reports. Im responsible for ensuring the jobs that update the schema dont fail as well as the pbi refreshes. I help with some regression testing and still do the traditional BA stuff from scoping, requirements, design, document process flows etc. I dont know that there is a job title out there that would fit that. Every company is different

What do you think on blockchain developer
It is a good future because some people saying that it is just hype there is no practical use case of web 3 decentralised blockchain etc

What about BI Analyst? Is it the same as Data Analyst ? I see job postings with title 'BI Analyst' and the requirements basically describe a Data Analyst.

What is Business Intelligence Engineer? What is Data Analytics? I think you didn't talk about them.

Based off this video Mike, would you say a lot of "Data Analysts", especially those on YouTube, are actually BAs? Also, is there a reason for the confusion? There seems to be an overall lack of understanding of data roles.

I currently work as a Business Intelligence Analyst but only have to use PowerBI I’m not expected to use SQL unless I choose to and currently work under a vertical (HR) I’m not sure if this title inflation and I really am a business analyst.

Idk dude I'm a business analyst who can program in python ( after finish my data science bootcamp) and have extensive skills in SQL.... I did a bootcamp and was hired for my technical skills alone, I'm a BA and already have a task to codesomething for my employer, the truth is BAs vary from company to company and from department to department . Hi Sir!
What's the difference between Business Analysis and Business Analytics?

Hey Mike, how about the "Technical Business Analyst?" It's heavy on Python, SQL, SAS, and Tableau. Is this considered an IT role? The title and tools are a bit confusing. Thx

It's not 100% true Mike, that Excel is not being used at all by technical data roles. It may be from time to time. I got the source sample data from business in *.xlsx format. This is a compiled format, thus to work with it you need to use MS Excel (or something similar) to open it and work with the data. This was just 1 case in half a year, but it rarely happens.
