I also had an overwhelming sense of "not being enough" when I started as a business analyst also, being around already by subject matter experts that knew so much more than I did. But what helped me overcome it was my decision to learn as fast as possible. Spending extra time outside of the work hours to catch up. When you know just as much as the SMEs, they will acknowledge you and your struggle and accept you as a fellow SME. Never stop learning, the goal can be to always be jist as a good as the best SME, or even better

Imposter Syndrome is the number one factor that holds people down in any role. Especially those who interact with more experienced or extroverted people. Good that you mentioned it.

Stumbled across your video as I'm searching for more BA professional development courses. As a mid-level BA myself, I can relate to everything you just said. To this day I'd still be subconsciously doing some of those things. This is a great reminder for me. Thank you for sharing. Subscribed, keep up the good work!

This was great stuff! Ive been a BA for 3 years and have started mid level work with a new firm. It’s been overwhelming to say the least. You have literally verbalized the same issues I have been expressing to my GF. Thank you for the encouragement!

Hiya! fab video! I can really relate to many of these! From my own experience, i would add that for point 4 (the end user knowing what they want), iIve found that in many organisations, the customer may know what they want at a very high level, but what the actual end product looks like, or indeed if they even need it at all, is a different question (or assumption!) altogether :)

PS. love the tree diagram, great analogy!!

You are describing me to a TEE. Every point. Thank you so much for this as I’m 1.5 years into my BA career and really feeling it. I’m slowly getting out of it but it’s still heavy.

Great vid, thanks for your insights :)

For me, my mistake when I started, and still now, is not knowing what is/isn't in my swim lane i.e. is this task I'm doing part of my role as a BA. I feel it's an ongoing education that will only be clarified with more experience and from speaking to other BA's.

P.s Good ol' 'Imposter Syndrome'! I think it infects everyone at different times by different amounts in their career regardless of where they sit/role they have.

I've been a BA for 7 years and I still don't know what I'm doing lol. And I don't like meetings at all or having to talk in meetings.
