Personally I’d like to think that the only reason pokemon mega evolve in battle due to their trust of their trainer is because they _know_ it’s temporary. Thus it isn’t as traumatizing.

Edit: I’d also like to think that the Alola dex is exaggerating a lot of it. A *majority* of trainers we see use mega evolution don’t seem to be the kind to willingly hurt their pokemon to such a horrific extent to gain the upper hand.

To be fair, it’s implied in the anime that a lot of training is needed to mega evolve a pokemon properly. Like Mega Lucario’s Pokédex entry is basically what happened when Korrina first mega evolved her’s

Mega Aerodactyl isn’t a modern form for it. Its Mega is its original form; the reason it hurts is because it’s gotten used to its new incomplete body and now has to get used to its original form all over again.

Personally I think the Alola researchers, motivated by the urge to boost the local training scene and not incentivize foreign stuff, made up all the stuff about painful mega evolution to discredit it in comparison to Z-Moves

I wish to believe that those dex entries are the results of the Pokemons entering mega evolutions without the bond with their trainers. As in that bond is the perfect way to keep the furious energy of the mega evolutions controlled and alright for the pokemon.

Similarly to how eternatus was able to cause random wild dynamaxes, there could have been things that allowed wild Pokemon to enter mega evolution which could have given place to these dex entries
