BRP SIERRA MADRE is a Warship of the Philippine Navy. We, the United States, are obligated to support the Philippines in the event they are attacked, and that includes BRP SIERRA MADRE as well as any Coast Guard Vessels that are attacked. Deliberately ramming a Philippine Coast Guard vessel is considered an attack on the Philippines and should be considered an attack on the United States by China. They are definitely acts of War by China.

The dispute is not totally Philippines as the enforcement of the law of the Sea has to be implemented and no other nation can do the police work to deter the Chinese but the american intervention.
