As long as Gibson keeps putting more money into lawyers than quality control, they won't get my money. My lefty Dean VMNT is a high quality instrument and one of my best playing guitars. I would definitely buy another lefty Dean guitar if the opportunity arises.

4K won’t cover a fraction of three years of litigation costs, nor will it recover a single disillusioned customer they lost due to their childish behavior. Gibson’s reputation as the ultimate bag of throbbing musical wieners stands unabated.

Gibson is doing this since forever! Me as a ESP Explorer Fan hating Gibson for not allowing the Banana Headstock for the ESP Explorers! So I ordered the ESP Explorer in Japan ! Sorry Gibson!

I think it's hysterical that the total amount of "damages" is the cost of one ES-335m

How can Gibson claim that counterfeiting took place when the guitars were NEVER listed as Gibson?? That's like saying Marlboro "counterfeited" Camel because the shape of cigs are similar. Haha

Jury - hey man that's copywrite infringement

Dean - lol okay. Here's 4 grand, and we just made another 300 flying Vs

Won $4000 lost $2million in lost revenue for how petty Gibson is. Dean has some of the ugliest head stocks in the industry if Gibson can win here they can win against LTD and any other company that made guitars that look remotely like a Gibson. Honestly you couldn't pay me to play a Gibson I dislike the brand that much.

Just in Gibson files lawsuit against Fender for copy right infringement. Gibson says “strat is a direct copy of their les paul”

As much as i dont like dean guitars from a personal playing perspective, im glad they got that deal rather than what could have been, good on Dean

Glad to hear that the case has ended. Though as a dean guitars fan, it saddens me that they had to go through that lawsuit. But I’m glad to hear that dean will continue making their guitars. I’ve always liked their z guitars and I could care less if it’s same as the explorer. I just like dean’s style and any explorer style instruments in general. I’m just thankful that this case didn’t cause much damage and that dean guitars will proceed on making their guitars.

It's definitely a win for the guitar community in general, if Gibson had reported this sooner it might have had some weight but to delay this suit for decades just makes them look even more small-time and petty.

Funny that Ray mentioned Adam Jones in this video, did anyone catch Bernth’s recent video of playing onstage with Tool?

The headstock on the Gibson V Jones is holding looks rather similar to a Dean headstock.

Must be “authentic” 🤔

All these Gibson lawsuits are absolutely nonsense...I mean Dean guitars are quite different whether you look at Flying V shape or the other ones.Did they not also go after Kiesel at some point for a guitar shape he designed in his early days and to which he had the patent? I think at the end of the day the consumers don't really care about Gibson obsession with lawsuits.People like a bit of variety in life! That's why many brands were created all those years after...for new designs or major improvements of the old stuff.

Not to mention Dean and most other guitar builders have better quality control and stability than Gibson.

40 years to try and stop Dean? Did Gibson finally get a legal team?

One can only hope gibson puts every cent of that 4 grand into their QC, but honestly it won't even cover a fraction of the legal fees. Very odd that they chose this hill to die on meanwhile they're shipping out guitars for 3 grand with worse QC than a $300 harley benton. I use to love gibson in fact I still have a 80's epiphone les paul when they were made in japan that i absolutely love. But every time i pick up a gibson it's the same thing. It looks pretty at a distance and then once you hold it you see all the flaws. I wouldn't care if they were 300-800 dollar guitars but gibson's aren't cheap, and they shouldn't be made so cheap.

For Gibson, the settlement money is probably irrelevant. My concern comes from Gibson’s statement after the win: “The court found that the Gibson trademarks are valid, the Gibson shapes are not generic, and the defendants were guilty of both infringement and counterfeiting.” This could set precedent for them going after other companies that use similar body styles. I remember they tried going after Kiesel a couple of years ago too. I don’t think this is the end of all this.

I will never buy a Gibson!
At least Fender doesn't pull a dick move and sue every other company that makes their own version of a Strat and Tele!

You said to leave a comment about what we think. Gibson has money to pursue God knows how many lawsuits yet doesn't have the money to maintain that one factory they closed? Gibson has money to acquire Mesa Boogie but doesn't have the money to fix those 300+ guitars they ran over with that bulldozer? They could have donated those guitars to *POOR PEOPLE ! ! !* Their Quality Control from what I understand is STILL in need of a lot of work. Gibson won't budge with sixty year old design defects because "R&D" is too much? Gibson had DECADES to address these "trademark" concerns. Jeff Kiesel of Kiesel/Carvin Guitars said in one of his vlogs a year or two ago that Gibson was allegedly threatening Kiesel with litigation because of a couple of Kiesel's designs, one of which is the Kiesel "single cut"...the equivalent to in body shape/headstock design to a Les Paul Standard. A Kiesel single cut and Les Paul Standard next to each other have way more differences than similarities. Gibson even tried suing PRS Guitars for the same reason, that "Single Cut" design and Gibson thank God LOST. When Gibson sued ESP Japan for the single cut "Eclipse" design (now called the "lawsuit model") and won, I was livid. An ESP Eclipse and Gibson Les Paul Standard/Custom do NOT have enough similarities to justify Gibson waging war AND winning on ESP. It didn't make sense. What happened with that case, jury, and judge is beyond me. Personally I think Gibson wants to push in as many areas as possible to limit competition. Gibson knows that many other companies are excelling in quality, reliability, and really innovation. Schecter has entry level guitars that are in the $500 and slightly above price point that have way better quality and features than some of Gibson's custom shop stuff. Dean Guitars/Armadillo did NOT deserve this even it was just $4, 000 of liability.
