I practically had my finger on the BUY button for a Harley Benton counterfeit (according to Gibson) Les Paul. Because of all of this Gibson nonsense, I will not have anything that even LOOKS like a Gibson guitar in my house. I, for one, will not be sad if Gibson ceases to exist.

OK. I am going to get flamed, but here goes: All you high and mighty "principled" guitar buyers would buy a Gibson in a heart-beat if you found a steal of a deal. Like let's say a Real Gibson Les Paul Standard for $600 or whatever. How is what Gibson is doing anything different from what Apple and Samsung do or any other of these companies that are constantly suing one another for trademark/patent violations? It really is no different. Yes the guitar community is smaller than the smartphone community, but the same principles apply. Let's let the courts decide the outcome. Granted the public opinion has already decided that Gibson is scandalous, so they have to deal with that fall-out..  

I think they will be fine at the end of the day.. I for one have owned a couple of Gibsons and recently purchased a brand new Les Paul. I love the guitar because it plays and sounds great. I have an Affinity Strat that I customized that plays and sounds great too that was 1/10th of the cost of my LP.. I probably will NEVER get rid of either of these until I die. People have just piled on Gibson, the courts will decide if their claim is valid. It will be interesting to see.  

The Gibson brand is not going anywhere soon, I for one am not willing to throw away over 100 years of history and legendary guitars for a few bad PR moves and lawsuits.

They did the same thing in England. Rosetti (Gibson's UK distributor at the time) told stores they had to choose between "Vintage" or or all Gibson brands and Vintage almost disappeared from physical stores.

It's like Gibson is deliberately doing things to fail at just about everything. That's just sad. How can they be making these kind of mistakes? Why can't they just focus on making quality guitars and leave it at that? It wouldn't have been that hard...all they had to do was continue to make their best sellers, maybe alter the head stock angle so they are stronger, maybe experiment with some different colors and bursts here and there....they would have been fine.

Gibson is alienating its customer base. Many dean players may also play Gibson, but I doubt that will happen much in the future. Seems the millions spent by Gibson could have been spent designing and building great guitars for the new generation of players instead of sending in the lawyers

Here’s an idea, why don’t they come up with there own designs!
People can justify and circle talk all they want, doesn’t change the fact that Gibson was blatantly ripped off.
