Something I love about this scene, is that it shows how powerful toothless is. We usually see him as a dorky playful dragon, but we forget how insanely strong he is.

This puts into perspective why nightfuries were so feared. Not only do they have incredible speed and natural camouflage, alongside a devastating attack and superior senses to most dragons, but also they have the ability to force storms to answer to them. A nightfury during the day can overpower and outpace most enemies and still use lightning and spontaneous storm clouds to gain a further advantage, and during natural storms and nighttime they are even more powerful. And then atop that, they also have the cloaking, for even stealthier attacks and getting out of sticky situations. It's made clear that the signature whine of an incoming nightfury is made intentionally, as sometimes they just don't do it, and at times Toothless shows himself capable of nearly silent flight beyond the sounds of wind, so they are truly almost impossible to see. The description in the first movie was most certainly accurate - the deadliest and the rarest.

For those asking how his tail fin could have disappeared, I believe in Hidden World Hiccup used some of his scales while making his tail fin. Because of that he could still heat up the tail enough that it could be reflective with the rest of him.

I don't know if it's just me, but without the red tail fin it's hard to reconize him, when somebody hears ''Toothless'' there mind instantly thinks of the lovable night fury with a RED fin. I get that they coloured it black to match his scale colour, so that it would be easier for him to survive in the wild, because if you have a bright red fin on your tail your going to stand out like a sore thumb, but it's just so different seeing him without the iconic red fin, it's almost as if he's a different dragon..

I just realized that valka is played by Kate blanchett who also played hela the goddess of death in Thor Ragnarok . Thor and hela represent lightning and death and the Vikings worship these Norse gods . I thought this was kinda interesting

In this scene I figure toothless has more armor in his scales then light fury because of the fact that he needs more than the heat of plasma to make his scales hot enough to be able to cloak. If it needs to be hotter his scales are thicker thus he can withstand a lot more damage then lightfuries (or other dragons) scales.

this is probably just me, but i love the light fury’s design- its so different yet familiar to a nightfury and im glad they didn’t get lazy and just made another toothless clone- the light fury has her own personality and reasonings besides “im toothless’s mate” & it’s incredibly cute
