North Korea - Visiting as a Tourist, Part Two

This video is part two of a brief overview of what I saw in North Korea. This video discusses how to visit North Korea as a tourist.

"I remember reading that Cuba was the only sustainable developed country in the world and that if we were serious about our Ecological Footprint, we would need adopt a lifestyle similar to that of Cubans. Of course the Cuban lifestyle has pretty much come about due to trade embargoes. In North Korea the self imposed ecological sustainability can be traced to the Juche idea developed by Kim II-Sung. This concept embraces the three tenants of Political independence, Economic self-sustenance and Self-reliance in defense."

I know the tour company I went with do listen to what people want to see and push for it to be added to the places one can visit. I think it will change over time.

This video had me hooked in, as I'd already watched Part I. But then, suddenly, it ended! This video was too short. Ahhh, you are teasing us, making us want Part 3! Please hurry and post video #3--I can't wait!!

Btw, I went with Koryo Tours, a British run company based in Beijing, who are the most established (20 years) company running tours to DPRK. Our group was about 16 people, so a smaller group may offer more opportunities to talk, etc... But the tour was well organised. Also, because they have such a long relationship with DPRK, they have been able to make several films/documentaries such as the one about Middlesborough Women's Football Team who went to DPRK to play and the one about US soldier

Yes, I've decided to try and keep my videos to the 2-3 minute mark, but at the end I will upload the whole series

I like this series. I wouldn't mind seeing longer videos about tourism in North Korea. Its not a topic that is talked about often. I hope to go there someday. I need to start saving!! I just wish that tourists were able to see more things than their predetermined list of tourist sites. You can't get a clear grasp of what life is really like in North Korea.

James Joseph Dresnok (check him on Wikipedia) who defected to the DPRK and has been living in Pyongyang for years, working as an actor of all things... Fascinating...!

I just watched the whole film about Dresnok on YouTube - it's certainly worth seeing. Type in 'crossing the line dresnok' and you'll find it in 6 parts...

I dont think tourism is just about money, it brings in new ideas, understanding. An open border is a positive change.

I went to DPRK in November as part of a tour group. Despite getting food poisoning on the second night and feeling awful for the rest of the trip, I enjoyed my visit and the first hand insight into this walled-in country. I disagree with the last comment about spending your money on other destinations - if you want to go, then do so. You have limited contact with the locals, but I believe it is important for normal down to earth people to visit the country so as to expose them to the outside wo

train crossed the Yalu River into China and uttered 'I'm leaving...', in a voice tinged with disbelief at the fact.. I totally felt his isolation, despite being one of the privileged few who are able to travel (on state business). And yes I have read 'Nothing to Envy' and 'The Aquariums of Pyongyang' and am well aware of the horrors of the regime, but I came away understanding the people and their plight far more than just reading about it on my way to work...

I have read quite a bit about North Korea, I'm well aware of it's problems. Bear with me, these are just previews.

Hi, This is SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System), commercial TV and Radio Company in Korea. We are preparing for a documentary video about the North Korea. While searching data for it, we felt so impressive about your video on youtube. If you don't mind, can we use a part of your video? We greatly appreciate if you give a response. Thank you.

I nearly overstayed my visit, had a little difficulty getting my chinese visa back into china. I had to pay $USD for the visa...they wouldn't accept chinese yuan!!

Mr. Shea honestly needs to emmigrate to his obvious the DPRK. Love the reference to Cuba. Funny how efficient Cuba is. Last year their utopian model required over $11B USD of food so they would not starve.

world. The majority of people have never left/can't leave the country, so any exposure, however slight to citizens of other countries can only be a good thing - of course the everyday people have no say in the running of the country, so what difference will it ultimately make even if thousands of outsiders visit? It makes a difference because it is real - you are there, you can talk (within reason), you can smile, you can laugh. I had the unexpected 'honour' to share my overnight train carriag
