For anyone wondering,
The Oregon zoo is the nicest one I've ever been to. All the animals look happy and well fed. They also do a lot of community events, including a Christmas light walk.
I'm not surprised to learn they take their elephants out for tours, lol. Seems like a nice place to work.

Edit: it's nice to hear from so many folks in the Oregon area!
When including several zoos in Hawaii and Boston, the Oregon zoo is easily the best one I've been to. They have just as much love for the community as the animals, and they care about those animals a lot.

The elephant reminds me of a report I read once about an orangutan who would escape his enclosure every night after the zoo closed just to check out the other exhibits. They returned to their own by morning. No one would've ever known had someone not randomly checked the security camera footage one day.

Steve Carrell placing the winning bid on a charity action reminds me of the PirateSoftware Challange Coin in CDawgVAs charity auction. PirateSoftware has donated the coin every year, and nobody has got it. He is basically letting other bidders decide how much money he donates, because he doesn't give out those coins that easy. One day someone will outbid him, but it'll be very expensive.
