Dear Black Girl

#DearBlackGirl is a spoken word written and performed by Linwood Darkis. It was inspired by the experiences of my clients, and the mutual pain I have felt from not loving myself. Please take the time to watch this video and share it with anyone you deem fit.

This is beautifully read. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm a young woman who never thought about my blackness not being beautiful until one day in elementary school someone pointed out my overly sized African nose.
Being of a multicultural family I had a lot of my father's features in which his grandfather was full-blooded Nigerian but my mother is complexion. I always found all shades of brown beautiful however since it was pointed out that my nose was not attractive and mind you I want to a predominantly Caucasian Elementary School I had planned to grow up and alter my nose to fit a better Beauty standard.
It's actually sad however my European friends in high school we're the ones to convince me that my nose was he perfect nose for my face and God made me just way he wanted me to I'm so thankful for who I am and I love my Widespread nose 😍
