Hey there! Help pls. I use MacBook Pro.... The error ALERT.
"The file format and extension of ‘ ‘ don’t match. The file could be corrected or unsafe. Unless you trust its source, don’t open it. Do you want to open it anyway?".
I have installed two times the Excel application. But added to the frustration of using MS package on a MacBook.

The Options are Yes or No. Clicking both options lead to MULTIIPLE FILES OPENING, REPEATEDLY WITH NO STOPPING. I have to force quit. No result.


I use MACBOOK & have official Office 365 subscription.

Clueless what to do & whom to seek help from....

Thanks for this. Turns out that if you try to double click a file open in the OneDrive, it'll throw that message and prevent you from opening it. The feature is there to supposedly protect you from opening files on the Internet (which is where your files are if they're on OneDrive). Strangely, though, the same file will open if you open it from within Excel. There's probably some logic to this, but I can't see it.

my issue is As Is. excel file saved in my Lenovo Laptop > I cloud Drive. It was working fine. Last night, I tried open that file through my i phone device. It says EXCEL CANNOT OPEN THE FILE BECAUSE FILE FORMAT OR EXNETION IS NOT VALID. VERIFY THAT FILE IS NOT CORRUPTED AND THAT FILE EXTENTION MATCHES THEIR FORMAT. I did follow your above instructions but unable to find any option called unblock under security. In a separate note, I have observed under properties > security's > Group or user name, I see list such as account unknown, Admin > my name etc. All other Good excel file in i cloud drive is does not have unknown account. It appears that issue under Group or User Name section. Please advise. thanks
