You can also do this in a vertical level by having a scrollstop that leaves 3 tiles on the side of the level that the player won't see. Those invisible 3 screens will load in so you can just put the noteblocks there. You will have to keep adding the noteblocks as you move up/down the level enough screen so it'll keep playing (if you're keeping it simple), but this allows you to have progressive sound design by changing the enemies and arragements used.
