ANYONE THAT CAN MAKE A FLUTE JAM IN A ROCK BAND...GETS MY
His live stuff is crazy!

A song about a homeless man seen from 2 different perspectives. The loud part lyrics shows how he's looked down upon by others. The softer part describes his struggles. Aqualung refers to the sound of his labored breathing, most likely from an illness.

If you want a Jethro Tull song that will get you really jumping, please react to
Locomotive Breath.
Will blow you mind !

The man is dying of TB. This is how he lives his last days. Picking up dog ends ( cigarette butts to smoke. ) Going to the Salvation Army for a little to eat and tea.. The flowers in spring is coughing up blood. The word Aqualung means water lung.

Jethro Tull had an unusual sound & style. It really set them apart from other groups with their own distinctive sound! 🤘🏻

You are the first reviewer I've seen who properly appreciated Martin Barre's excellent solo in this song. I think it still stands as one of the most well-phrased electric guitar solos ever recorded.

Love you are doing more Jethro Tull. I always enjoyed Bungle in the Jungle. Thanks for this. And his live performances are great.

When I saw you were listening to Jethro Tull's Aqualung, I thought to myself hum, pretty sure the lyrics are going to be disturbing for you, but I also felt you would enjoy the way it was put together. Personally I love the entire album, it is amazing, and seeing him live performing it, I can only tell you Ian Anderson is phenomenal. I hope you listen to more, so you can see what an incredible flutist he is.

My first boyfriend was a huge Jethro Tull fan. I still have the mixed tape he made me in 1985! He told me that when he saw them in concert, Ian Anderson stood on one leg with the other leg bent, with that foot on the other knee, for the full length of his extended flute solos! I later saw some live footage where he did the same thing. My favorite Jethro Tull song is “Locomotive Breath.” Second favorite is probably “Life Is a Long Song.”

Wow! So strange how songs bring back vivid memories. My oldest brother got this record and played this to me on his brand new turntable (I was probably 7). I started crying. John asked me why. I asked why the poor old man wouldn't take the dog home with him. He said that the dog already had a really nice home. John was pretty cool for a 13 yr. old.

If you want to go deep, “Skating away on the thin ice of a new day” has an incredibly deep message. Deep cut but worth taking a listen to!

THIS WAS WRITTEN BY IAN AND HIS WIFE AND IT WAS THEIR TAKE ON HOW PEOPLE TREAT THE HOMELESS JAY, FOR THE MOST PART THAT'S WHAT IT WAS ABOUT :) BUT PEOPLE HAVE OTHER TAKES LIKE HOW AQUALUNG IS A HOMELESS, PERVERTED OLD MAN. TOP 100 ROCK SONGS OF TIME, AND COMING UP ON 50 YEARS SOON ENOUGH LOL :)

Aqualung is an excellent song and album. "Locomotive Breath", "Cross Eyed Mary" and " Hymn 43" are all great songs off the same record.

One of my favorites as well. I have had the opportunity to see him live several times; amazing stage presence. I still follow his music although he is more contemporary these days. Some other songs I enjoy and most of the public has never delved into: or you don’t hear on the radio include: " Jack-A-Lynn", " Life Is A Long Song"; "Fat Man", " Too Old To Rock 'N' Roll"; " New Day Yesterday", "Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day" and "Songs From The Wood". (Live versions are best of course) Don't forget "Nothing is Easy"

THANK YOU FOR THIS REACTION BRO 👊 It's difficult to think that "perhaps" if we as the human race would have lived out the lyrics of these Artist through all of these years, just how much better the world would be. Jethro Tull addresses "Homelessness" in this song and here we are 50 years later with Homelessness at an all time High ☹️
