I went to surgery first I was still in MED SCHOOL!!! They wanted to go the surgery route with pain meds. I get it. That's their scope of practice. Pain Management kept in great contact with the physical therapy team. 👌

I live in Florida and pain management docs are hard to come by as it’s been stigmatized so much due to the opioid crisis. But I’ve had 4 spinal surgeries and many many Cadual injections. A good pain management doc is so damn important.

Pain management docs are misunderstood and underestimated. People think they just give narcotics but in reality they are good diagnosticians and have many safe options

I have degenerative disc disease and epidural injections have been a lifesaver! I got complete relief for almost a whole year. The annual trip is a good alternative to back surgery.

This was so spot on with my life having Crohn’s. I’ve seen several pain specialist: one WAYYY over medicated me, one refused to pretty much do anything, another dropped me after his office gave me a total runaround and now I have a pain specialist who is just incredible. She’s been great at not over meditating me and coming with alternative solutions while also understand and given my health history, sometimes narcotics are the best off me. It’s a rough uphill battle.

I WISH I was offered sedation for my back They were awful and I always went into a panic attack. Unfortunately insurance required I have FIVE injections before they would approve of the surgery that I needed (disc replacement). I am 6 weeks post op of the replacement and I am completely pain free now! Completely off of pain meds!

My dad has injection therapy for pain from scoliosis, it's made a massive difference for him in pain reduction (it's not 100% gone ofc, but he has much more freedom of movement and less pain).

I was so scared of having an injection into my spine but it was exactly like this- only took a few minutes and I walked out. That was 13 years ago and I've felt so much better ever since.

I've had this and then rhizotomy. I've had a cervical fusion and all of my discs from C4 down are either bulging or completely herniated. And I've never needed opiates to counter the pain. It really works very well.

Fun fact: in Ehlers-Danlos patients, epidurals screw the joint up even more (it makes the already crappy connective tissue in the joint(s) even worse. Which I found out after my series of epidurals ramped my pain up intensely 😂😭)
