Leo, after you took that break earlier this year, I was thinking a lot about you and your contributions. The amount of meticulous details that you have shared with us in the field of personal development is just something!
And yet you seem to be humble and modest when it comes to living your own life. And you aren't afraid to share your truth with us. And you never seem to promote your products so much like other youtubers do who are always trying to promote their courses and ebooks. And you are the one who stands out in this deep YT pendulum of clickbaits and superficial marketing.
Your videos have helped awaken so many people including myself and every weekend it lights me up when i receive a notification for your video! It's like me hearing back from my best friend every single time. I might not agree with everything you say, but you constantly create thought provoking videos which challenge my beliefs and I love that.

• Learning = behavior change
• Learning = making distinctions.
• Learning is one of the master keys in life.
• Make conscious distinctions in whatever field u are studying. With intention. Asking questions that highlight differences . U gonna try to specifically emplify contrasts and differences between things that u are trying to learn .
• -how are they different ? -how are they same ?
• There are many degrees of drawing a distinctions.
• Ex 1 - store. 10 different apples. 5 . Notice differences. Make distinctions.
• Making dist. Consciously vs Making dist. Unconsciously .
• ex 2 . Different kinds of music. Make conscious dist. Notice differences.
• Do it and notice what it feels like to consciously making distinctions.
• A person who is a fool makes a overly simplistic dist. Lacking nuance and takes it as absolute truth and thinks that he is very smart.
• Notice and observe that when u are making distinctions u are constructing them .
• Watch out fro judging when making dist. Cause mind loves to attaching labels to different things.
• Racism plays into making sloppy dist. Between races.
• Ur mind is playing constructive role. It is projecting a lot of the stuff out into the world, u are not very conscious of how it is doing that. Nd less conscious u are of that the more u gonna be trapped and mistake ur own dist. And projections for something that is inherently found out there - reality .
• Distinctions can be drone across each other. Like : black, socialist trance gender gay guy .
• Ur mind is selecting those distinctions which are most favorable to the survival of that mind .
Ur mind will not draw a neutral dist. It will be biased .
Ur mind will draw dist. Which are favorable to ur worldview.
And u gonna overlook the other ones.
And it is done unconsciously. In selfish manner. Maybe hurting other and distorting reality .
To know and acknowledge and see that is big step. It requires lot of self honesty . Decade. Self analises and lot of emotional turmoil to admit it and + stop doing it.
• So this ex. Will make u too assume responsibility for the first time, with making distinctions.
And in the past when u think u were drawing distinctions u were blindly following group think and u where adopting distinctions that body draw for u that got bakes into ur culture and than u picked it up .
• Creation and inovation is the process of creating new dist.
• U have to create new distinctions and u have to take responsibility for creating new distinctions .
• Distinctions which u get from ur culture as indoctrination VS THE DISTINCTIONS that u derive or draw for urself through direct experience and exploration of reality .
• To invent something new u have to make new distinction.
• Pre rational spirituality vs post rational spirituality .
• It is very easy to delude urself with drawing a wrong distinctions.
• Spiral dynamic is just a set of a distinctions.
• Some distinctions are so powerful that they can change ur whole life. But also it becomes dangerous than . U forget that it is a distinction and projection and that it has limits.
• We cant survive without projections but e can become much more aware of our projections . And realise there limitations and be able to manipulate our projections in a conscious way , and being able to turn of the projection .
• Entire world is constructed out of distinctions. Consciousness is an infinite field that creates distinctions . And love is collapsing of all distinctions.
So All dist. Are relative and imaginary
• Start to learn by making distinctions.

I just did the music homework and I must just say wow. I never realized how much you could actually "listen" to songs and how many layers you could find to each of them. Of course I knew that there were layers but I didn't realize how quickly I could get scratch the surface of these layers just by being more attentive with my listening. It was a completely different experience from how I normally just completely passively listen to songs for hours on end.

Learning ≠ Memorization of facts

Go into every situation with the intention of making finer and nuanced distinctions

Examples:
- Leo bought a house (woohoo!)
○ Built from the ground up
○ Accomplishing something in a masterful way requires making fine distinctions
○ Wall sockets:
§ Which kind?
§ Where?
§ On which walls?
○ Inspect everything. Compare your concept against actuality.
○ Wood, Marble, Insulation, Plants, Pebbles
○ Palm tree: Studying online + Visiting Nurseries = Able to make fine distinctions
- We are all good at something
○ We have spent years learning this and have been implicitly making distinctions
○ Programming, Math, Playing games, etc.

Implicit ---> Explicit = Masterful learner

New situation:
- Set the intention of making distinctions
- Look for contrasts and differences
- Conscious and deliberate questioning = We can spot distinctions quicker
- Rapid learning
- Amplify the differences

Example: Shopping for a car:
- Standard way = Lazy and unconscious
○ Learning through trial and error
- Now:
○ Go in with an intention to learn distinctions
○ Compare and contrast
○ Spot sameness and differences
○ Conscious learning

Distinctions:
- Mild vs Sharp
- Vague vs Clear
- E.g.: Carving a groove in a stone
- Consciously + With Intention + Repetition = Sharp and Clear distinctions
- Any master/Expert in any field:
○ Have a lot of experience in drawing fine distinctions
○ E.g.: Salmon:
§ Heat and cooking
§ Which one to purchase?
§ Which species? Which portion?
- Newbie:
○ Gross distinctions
○ Cannot tell the difference most times
- Not just materialistic pursuits. This approach can be applied to self-development and spirituality
○ Existential and metaphysical distinctions

Homework Assignments:
1. How do you like them apples:
a. Get a pencil and some labels
b. Go to a big grocery store with a lot of variety
c. Find the different types of apples that they sell and buy 1 of each
d. At least 5 different varieties
e. Label them
f. Slice them up, put them on different plates
g. Taste each one
h. Apply the intention of noticing the differences
i. Learning:
i. Actual differences between the types of apples
ii. Meta-lesson: Learning = Making distinctions
1) Approaching a situation unconsciously vs consciously
2) Transfer that skill to other domains of life
3) Learning = Experience
2. Sound of Music:
a. Open your web browser
b. Go to YouTube
c. Find one song of each category of music
i. Jazz
ii. Hip-Hop
iii. R&B
iv. Rap
v. Heavy Metal

vii. Classical music

d. Open each in a separate tab
e. Play each for 30 seconds & listen consciously
f. Get the essence of the music genre
g. Apply conscious intention of noticing distinctions
h. Lessons:
i. Actual differences between the music genres
ii. Meta-skill.
1) Sense of clarity
i. Master musician:
i. Has spent years drawing these distinctions
ii. Understands similarities and differences
iii. Able to cross-pollinate and mix genres
iv. Able to cater to the audience

Common Person:
- Sloppy distinctions
- Misguided, overly simplistic distinctions
- Take relative distinctions as an absolute truth of reality
- Lack of nuance. Think they have it figured out = Qualities of a fool

Observe yourself from a meta-perspective
Making Distinctions = Constructing distinctions
- Not just a process of discovery
- The mind plays a creative role
- Are distinctions inherent to nature?
○ Go deeper
○ Assigning labels: Brings meanings & judgments
○ The mind is a categorization machine
○ Labels have a survival value
○ Beings in thoughts, memories, and feelings + shapes judgments
○ E.g.: Race relations
§ Racist people
□ Crude distinctions. Overgeneralize
□ Place their own race at the top
□ Misconstrue labels for reality

○ Less conscious = More traps
○ E.g.: Politics
§ Ignorant people
□ Take a position, identify with it and start defending it
□ Lack nuanced distinctions
□ Wrong people get elected!
□ Fox News:
Deliberately cast liberals and Dems as Socialists and Marxists
Venezuela = Scandinavia =China
Don't understand capitalism, socialism, etc.
□ Liberals:
All conservatives = Trump Supporters
□ Don't care about the truth
○ Wrong distinctions get us into a lot of distinctions

Distinctions can be drawn in different ways
E.g.:
- Cutting a pie: Can be sliced across different axes
- Population:
○ Men, women: Misses Transgenderism
○ White, black, Asian + Sexuality + Political views

We think distinctions are out there in the external world
Mind sneakily selects and focuses on distinctions that support its survival
Self.-bias: Noticing it is tough
- Self-observation
- Emotional labor
- Awareness of self-deception

Assume responsibility for how the mind draws distinctions
Normally, we just pick up distinctions from our culture.

Things and labels come from our culture. We assume that they are true.
Everyone blindly endorses these distinctions, thereby strengthening the illusion.

Creation & innovation = Process of creating new distinctions


Highly creative & visionary:
- Being able to create new distinctions
- Seemingly obvious distinctions had to be created
- Shape the future and society
- Out of box thinking

Indoctrinated vs Derived distinctions: Huge difference

Many intellectual people make simplistic distinctions and conflate them
- Their followers blindly accept them
- E.g.: Scientists cannot distinguish between pre-rational and post-rational spirituality & concepts
○ God vs the concept (bearded man in the sky)
- Socialism vs Social democracy (Jordan Peterson)

Spiral Dynamics:
- A set of distinctions
- Complex and nuanced model
- Requires 50-100 hours of research & experiential study

Distinctions can be very powerful:
- But they can become dangerous
- We start thinking it is real
- Spiral Dynamics is a projection of our minds
- Most people unconsciously project onto Reality
- Materialist paradigm: Another lens for creating distinctions
○ We're living in a dark age of materialism
○ Assumes that distinctions are inherent to Reality

It's actually insane how I was contemplating this a lot the past week. Noticing how I improved in work by fine-tuning my distinctions, noticing how people around me cant sometimes understand some things because we don't share the same distinctions, realizing how distinctions work is fundamentally important after having some meditation/mindfulness background so you don't get lost in fantasy. Schooling is just identifying distinctions. Specializing in a field is about identifying greater distinctions. But then in the end every distinction collapses into oneness.. Maybe this is analogous to a television screen where the entire screen is one but the images on it make it take different forms. So you can be aware of the oneness of the screen at the same time as the distinctions it presents. That's what I got from this video
