The real shame is that The Guess Who are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!

The flute solo was literally a last minute addition. On Randy Bachman's radio show he told us that the album was completed and he and Burton went to a music store to buy guitar strings when Burton saw a flute for sale. He said he thought it would be a good idea to replace the guitar solo on "Undun" with the flute, since bands like Jethro Tull and Traffic were using it, but realized he wouldn't be able to learn how to play it in time. A guy working in the store asked Burton if he ever played tenor sax and when Burton said he did, the clerk told him the fingering for the flute was exactly the same as for a tenor sax. Realizing that he COULD play the flute they bought it and ran back to the studio and redid the song before it went to press.

One of the most underrated bands with one of the greatest singers of all times, Mr. Burton Cummings. So many great Canadian musical groups/artists!

Released in 1969 and still sounds modern. Great guitar playing by Randy Bachman of Bachman Turner Overdrive.

This song was written by Randy Bachman, who wrote many of their more "meaningful" songs. He tells the story of a girl he had seen at a party who, after taking LSD, slipped into a coma.

I have been grooving on this perfect tune for 55 years. It never gets old and still weaves the magic...✨🌟⭐

Love this song with Burton Cummings singing lead. This was a big hit for The Guess Who. It’s unfortunate you couldn’t download the video on this which was a Midnight Special. Burton also plays the flute solo and does a great scat. Thanks for your great reactions. 👏👏🥰

Guitarist Randy Bachmann compliments his voice perfectly.

Lead singer Burton Cummings has a phenomenal voice! I have heard that Robert Plant was once asked
"If he could sing like anybody else, who would it be?"
The legendary voice of led Zeppelin replied, "Burton Cummings".
Mighty high praise indeed

Good on you for noticing the "jazziness". Randy Bachman wrote the song after learning some jazz phrasing from his neighbor, jazz guitarist Lenny Breau. Randy's favourite Guess Who song.

As a college student in the late 80s, I was a neo-hippy. My friends and I listened to contemporary music, sure, but what we loved was the music of the 60s and the 70s. I remember driving back up to college with my buddy Gary in his piece-of-shit $1400 Jeep listening to the Guess Who's Greatest Hits. It was rainy and his Jeep was so rust-eaten that you could look down at your feet and see the wet highway through the rust-riddled floor boards. AND his gas gage filled halfway with rain water. And somehow we made it back to Muncie from Indianapolis and we were singing along with the Guess Who the entire way! (RIP Gary. You left too soon).

Bingo, Amber! The magic of the music of the 60s and 70s was the creativity! There were no boundaries! That's what made the Beatles so phenomenal. They synthesized this creativity into something other musicians were experimenting with but no one had done!

Amber, please don't ever change the way you do this. I love watching your expression when the lyrics hit you, and the way you can describe what you observe is better than anyone I have ever seen.
