That little detail about not over extending the foot and emphasizing a good back step with hips in, is a huge benefit that’s totally fixing my throws in live sparring. Thank you!

Phil's struggle to fine tune how much to hip in vs. how much to bail on it in order to not ragdoll you (his partner) was a valuable insight (on par with the drill and lesson itself).

Great video! Although I would say that the basic hip throw/o goshi is a very Greco-Roman thing. In Judo it is the first hip throw you learn for the yellow belt, but I can't remember ever seeing it used in competition. It's so easy to use your right leg as leverage and turn it into a harai goshi or a hanei goshi. But it is good for exercise your hip movement for all forward throws.

That was awesome. Would you confirm, that the mindset should be to "try looking at the toes of your behind foot" ? It looks like that's what you do all the time. You turn and bend down until your eyes are directly above your behind foot.

Thats a nice detail I've been missing. :)

I use the hip throw often in jiu jitsu! It’s definitely a great move to learn and do. The step is important to ensure you flip them over. I also made a video on my channel showing how to do it 🤙🏼. Nice teaching coach!

This is great! Gonna use this drill in Judo! We do entries, but I thought this is very dynnamic and while one does right hand side, the other does left hand side, instead of waiting for 10 or so entries. How is this throw (o goshi) called in wrestling?

Excellent content and detail as always..
**BTW - You Tube keeps unsubscribing me from your channel and other channels..
I assuming they are doing to your other viewers/supporters as well **

This is exactly how I learned o goshi in submission wrestling. Judo and Japanese Jujutsu guys do it with their hips a lot more square and I don't like it. Yet when you throw someone like this, they'll ask if you're a Judoka, because it's so clean. Judo is awesome though.

Its about storing back with trail leg, instead of stepping across and forward with the lead leg..

How do you fight the instinct to post your arm out when falling?
