Send and Receive Text Message from Computer - Google Messages for Web Desktop and Windows App

I'm now using the app - thanks for the tip on 'installing' it. I'm pretty sure the Windows app is just a Chrome wrapper, I think Google Keep works the same way, it effectively opens a Chrome browser window, without all the other controls etc.

Glad you ran this because I've long wanted to do this. One billion have downloaded the app.
The hesitation I have is that you when open the app the first time it says you have to make it the default SMS app. Since I've A. got a long message history in the "yellow" stock app called "Messaging", and would be furious if I lost that; B. don't know how easy it will be to restore the yellow one back to being default SMS if I need to, or just want to; and C. I know that the yellow app works. And I have functional familiarity. There are weaknesses in it, such as searching one contact only, or choosing whether or not to group multiple numbers under a single contact (e.g. work vs .mobile), and no doubt there are superior apps feature-wise. But it (the yellow app) ain't broke (other than not being able to run from the desktop P.C.), so I'm hesitant to pull the trigger, especially not knowing how difficult it would be to undo it.

It seems the process to install the appa changed. Now you need to click on the icon located in the adress bar figuring a screen and an arrow pointing downward to install the app.

Say I was using google messages on my computer, I am logged out of the account and somebody texts me, when I get my new phone will i be able to see those text messages?
