This series of videos on the radio receiver is great! Exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to understand what each component does. Most gloss over this. I suppose most aren't EE professors though. The only thing that I didn't quiet understand is the function of the resistor in the RC part of the circuit, but I've found forums that talk about this. Great work!

Thank you so much for uploading this playlist! I have wanted to learn about radios, but most other vids on youtube were too advanced. This was an excellent introduction.

Follow-up... found the remaining basic radio videos following immediately the first one, and NOT as usual in the directories following your name. Not sure for the reason for my initial confusion, but happy to have it resolved. Thanks... expecting good info to follow.

Lmao, you read my mind around 5 minutes in. I’ve been staring at radio books, sites, videos etc for years and still don’t understand how the paths actually work. Especially why doesn’t the signal just go from the antenna, straight to ground? As in what forces it to the speaker. Hope I can find the rest of this series.

I clicked Yes on this radio basics video, and was excited based on what you were to explain, but now I can't find any radio related basic follow-up videos. I'm bummed.

Yes Sir I had tried this in 1970 when i was a learner 😁😁😁
But this requires a very long long antenna and a suitable matching head phone 👍👍😁😁😁

Everywhere I see this simple circuit I see it with a speaker etc. but what if I want to receive some basic data? Can I put there a resistor instead of a speaker ? Only thing I want in my case is signal but no audio signal or voice but just I try to convert some basic digital signal into radio waves and receive it. I know this is AM and I know basics of radio waves and radio transmission and I know about FM and also FSK etc. this is NOT the case. I am looking for a very specific (and simple!) way to receive some basic data like ON/OFF but everywhere I see the same schematic but not many details about specific and USEFUL application of this. The circuit assumes that everybody wants to hear a sound from it but what if I want DATA? I have already made a good transmitter which can transmit some information or voice or audio sound for 10 m (I can receive it with my commercial radio receiver ) but I have some problems to build a receiver myself :(((( Even if I build something it is very POOR range and easy to loose the signal. Since 6 months I wonder what I do wrong :/ Maybe it is lack of my knowledge (I study electronics and computer programmign for my OWN) and of course I try to read books about radio communications and electronics (I HAVE basic knowledge and skills) but the radio receiver is like pain in the a... for me really I can't penetrate this f... thing.

Great video & series, thanks for sharing. Question: isn't the the diode in the diagram reversed? or will it work either way?

More... I listened to most, but couldn't find the last (Part 8 on speakers?). All are excellent and convey ultimately the bottom line on how tuners and detectors work that I haven't seen elsewhere. Thanks. Only suggestion.. and them all to a Intro to Radios playlist... that seems lacking (if present, I've been unable to find it). You're a blessing!

Why don't radio schematics ever show where the outer shield of the coax goes? Thanks for sharing!
