Nothing like old Codan “lunch box” radios with other classics like the 8525 and the 9323. I’ve got a 9323 with the first released firmware that once the emergency mode is enabled you can transmit out of band as far as the radio can handle which is always fun

my question is based on aircraft maintenance manual about HF system description and operation, why does HF require massive power to transmit compared to VHF?

It’s not that the electric and magnetic fields align at a right angle it’s more that an accelerating electric charge means a changing electric field which induces a changing magnetic field which induces a changing electric field and on and on.
