Gladiator 2 reviews were not keen on Ridley Scott's sequel to the beloved Gladiator movie. But as Maximus died in the first movie and the plot was completely wrapped up, was there a need for a second? Or worse, is there even a satisfying Gladiator story to tell at all? Is Gladiator 2 worth watching?

Gladiator 2 is a movie that many didn't see a need for, and even less enjoyed when it was released. A bizarre mix of characters whose motivations all undercut the emotional story of the others. A complete mess of a plot that tries manipulation stories yet ends up with just coincidences. And a gladiator story where the gladiatorial fights are the shortest and most depressing part. All together the movie is incredibly poorly acted and unsatisfying. It lacks all of the emotional resonance of the first movie, while trying to replicate the same story beats and characters. It's a strange mess, that can be summarised with "that'll do". And at $310 million budget, there is no excuse for any of this. While the backstage staff did a good job, making it look like Rome, can't save the acting and script. But what did you think of what you saw? Ridley Scott is like that chef who made a legendary dish decades ago but keeps overcooking the same ingredients, convinced the problem is the audience’s palate. Once the genius behind Alien and Blade Runner, now he's churning out films like he’s testing how far nostalgia can carry mediocrity.

Lucius' line "I never knew a mother or a father." Did the writers see the first film? Lucius was a happy child of privilege in Rome (the emperor Commodus' nephew) who definitely knew his parents. Just because he is hiding in Africa under a false(?) name doesn't make General Maximus his REAL father.

Washington's character sucks. He is a black American in the Roman Empire. The dude talks like an American he could not even change his speech patterns or accent. He was Denzel Washington playing himself. How can people not pick up on this? He fk'ing even said (My man) WTF was that sh*t.

Law of sequels: each with more hype and less substance than the original.
In Gladiator 3, they will have him fight a T-rex with a laser beam attached to its head.

Look at least they came up with some original ideas, a character who loses his wife, is made a slave, becomes a gladiator and seeks oh wait.. 🙃

The days where Hollyweird makes good movies that make any sense whatsoever are behind us. All they produce nowadays is pure garbage.

Pedro Pascal was in it, I'm not watching it. Even more so when Denzel said he had to kiss a guy for the movie (despite it got cut out). It felt great that they actually spent over $300 milions in this movie.

This movie isnt Gladiator. Its like a distant cousin everyone hates. The original movie is timeless. Movies like "Gladiator 2" are why im happy I never go to the movies anymore.
