Over the last 18 months or so, there have been a bunch of new GMRS HTs offered by several sellers. Some have been really good, and others, not so much. In this video we’ll take a look at what I believe are several new radios you should consider for your holiday shopping list – or just your “I gotta have something new” list.

Thanks, I really appreciate the info. I've been a ham for over 40 years and my wife for over 20 years, but for the kind of comms we need (around the farm or if she's doing a birdwatching hike while I'm doing a POTA operation) we've found FRS to be more convenient. Except... we've run into range issues with FRS so decided to try GMRS. I was pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive some of the HTs are (a single radio can be cheaper than the GMRS license!). We decided to go with the UV-5G Plus for now and it's working well for us. Nice to know that there are other not too expensive options available if we want to try something else.

Thanks a lot. What is your “high end “ radio recommendation ? When the spent a little bit more money is no problem. Thanks again.

I have both of the UV5R's and the TD-H3. They all do the job, but I recommend the H3 for the Bluetooth alone! You can get one for about $10 more with a 2nd battery and an AM antenna. There is also custom firmware for it now. 😁

You CAN program the UV5R's via Bluetooth with TIDRadio's BL1 however currently ODMaster doesn"t program airband on those radios.

I actually just ordered the HA1G on Friday. Amazon's Black Friday week has them in at $30 with a programming cable (same one for most of Retevis waterproof radios) that alone makes it worth it!

But word of caution for anyone looking to buy, they are currently Out of Stock so if you order one, you're going to have a bit of a wait. Mine went from arriving Monday to arriving next Saturday, and current estimates are 12/10-12/11

Hopefully more come in before then.

Where do you see fit the Baofeng UV15 Pro & would you recommend as a first radio or options on the list.
